| This is such a long-running argument in my house that my kids made up a song about it. |
|
Lunch, yes.
Dinner, not on its own, but it can be part of a good meal with some appetizers, hearty salad, good bread, cheese plate, etc. |
| Yes. |
+1. Especially the soups described. A bowl of minestrone, piece of bread, and a green salad is probably...350 calories?? And has little to no protein. In the US, where dinner is usually the most substantial meal, this would not be enough and I don't like guests to feel deprived, so solid no for me. I'm a small person with a small appetite so maybe for me, but not the 6'4 men in my family. It's an appetizer. |
I saw the thread title and I thought about that Seinfeld episode. Then started reading responses and I was thinking "isn't anybody going to bring up that Seinfeld episode"???? And then, finally, there you were! |
| IMO, no, but people differ on this point. |
Consommé is not soup. 🤣 |
Does anyone under age 40 relate to Seinfeld? I feel so old sometimes. |
| Definitely! Bread and salad 💯 |
Did he crumble any crackers in it? |
| Have you ever been to Asia? What kind of question is this? |
| For me yes, but I would not serve to guests unless I know they felt the same. |
It’s …questionable. See the Seinfeld episode
If this is the hill you want to die on, there are reasonable grounds. But I feel like there is a just as reasonable counter-argument. |
| I make Italian wedding soup as well as Tortilla soup and they are complete protein rich meals in my house (no growing boys). |
This is my view too. Fine for immediate family only. |
