Mine had “People Ops” to go along with “Customer Ops” “Design Ops” etc It was the worst place |
| Our head of HR is also head of Legal. That seems weird to me. They are also super hostile and not helpful, so I suppose it tracks with being lead by a lawyer. |
We've kept going. Now it's "Human Capital Management." Moo! |
| Yes, I remember shortly after college being a little shook that it means “Humans as resources” and not “Resources for humans” |
Often very gossipy, with NO sense of discretion, ime. |
| Huh, am I the only one who worked at an org with a rogue HR? Management and employees were scared to death of interacting with them and they drafted policies that had management openly fuming. |
Back in the day they would hire someone with a permanent scowl to ward off any would be complainers. Seems to still be effective. |
| Ornery, know it alls who usually are the first to break the rules they insist you follow. |
|
I thought HR stood for HypocRisy.
|
They back up senior management and the company as a whole. They will turn on middle management or line managers to protect higher ups |
|
It's right there in the name "Human Resources".
Did you think "Accounts Receivable" exists to make the Accounts feel better? Like the government, HR is useful when your interests align with theirs. |
| I figured this out when I was about twenty. Duh OP. |
| Wow I feel really bad for some of you folks that have had to work with some horrible HR people that have tainted your views. I have had the displeasure of working with some myself but to call everyone in HR stupid is beyond the pale. In every position I've ever held, I've worked my ass off to undo people's bad experiences with past HR people. Good, responsive, supportive HR professionals exist out here people! |
+1. You don't want your head of HR to be too warm and friendly. |
Yes. They are retired with a nice fluffy pension. |
