Should DC submit 1500 score to Duke?

Anonymous
Submit. If you do not, they are going to worry that you have a score much worse than 1500.

Yes, including rich people buying college counselors.

Because the system makes it beneficial to buy college counselors.

Nope no way.

this is flat out wrong

Correct. He forgot Asian.

Fify

This person said TO iOS not for white or Asian kids with college educated parents

86% of enrolled Duke students starting in fall 2022 submitted scores. Duke wants scores. Absolutely submit and don’t look back. And apply to plenty of targets.

Do you know where you are? You are in DCUM. It's like a Catholic church. You are free to curse in this country - but do you really want to curse in a sacred forum?

Submit. End of story.

Or it shows that, despite expensive tutors, coaches, and counselors, this kid isn't anywhere the median score.

Try Elon instead.

Sadly 1500 is below Duke’s 25th percentile… it should still be submitted though because it won’t be the reason for a rejection

This is actually racist of Duke, and other colleges who act this way. There are also Asians and white kids who don't test well, but otherwise excellent students. Aren't you discriminating against them by race and ethnicity if you implicitly force them to submit scores even though the official policy is test optional? Bring a class action suit against them for discrimination.

According to the brochure my son received at a recent info session, 68% of enrolled students (Fall 2023) submitted scores.

I have never heard anyone indicate the test score is weighted that high. Jeff Selingo who writes extensively about college admissions cannot even answer the question with any real certainty.

Yale seemed to suggest it was used more to pass the initial threshold. So highly significant for that step but not very beyond that.
