NP. Agreed. So tired of the trolling. OP wants to make sure scores are submitted and process seems opaque. It's a specific info oriented question. If people don't know, they should move on. Why this need to judge and snipe at absolutely everything. ... |
Or maybe with large numbers, 75k applicants, etc., schools can pre-sort a pike to pass through based on scores alone to the next round. If they above 75% automatic next round, etc. if they mid range, back to preliminary pile, etc. Who knows? |
+100 There were some strange responses. Some of these mothers seem like they are cracking from pressure and lashing out at everyone, assuming nefarious causes. Perhaps they are drinking from the stress. |

From Penn website dated one year ago:
“Since Penn is now offering test optional admissions, we are suppressing the test scores from our Common App PDFs. We must suppress them across all applicants in order to guarantee that we do not see them for the students who want them hidden. However, for students who are submitting test scores, we will still receive the test scores as part of the data that we import from Common App, and students will be able to view the test scores that we have on file for them through their Penn Applicant Portal.” |
This is the opposite. They are suppressing scores. |
I mean their own software. Maybe they import it from common app into their own software program to get a batch that meet a cutoff to start reviewing —yet suppress all from being seen on common app for those that don’t want them seem. Who knows |

It’s strange AP exam scores are shown in the pdf when the others aren’t so not all scores from test section are suppressed.

BEST ANSWER. Not W&M, but this totally makes sense. Some kids report scores to some schools but not others, and check a box saying they don't want scores reported. I find this very helpful. My kid is also applying to W&M but hasn't gotten this far yet-- helpful to know this in advance so we don't have the same question!! |
+1. My kid is at WM. Can attest that they will see and care about scores, should your kid choose to report them. Historically, it has seemed like WM puts more emphasis on tests scores than UVA and that top test scores can help offset a blemish in your grades (but not, say, more than one C). But in an era when kids are putting in scores, but not using them for all schools, they need a work around. I’m sure they are importing scores somehow from kids who choose to report. And what Harvard and Penn say makes sense. But if your kid is worried, the correct answer is have them (not you) call admissions and ask. DCUM can speculate, but it’s unlikely anyone here knows the exact process by which scores are reviewed. It’s a reasonable question. So go directly to the source for an answer. |

MANY colleges suppress scores in the PDF Preview. They still receive the scores. As long as the school does not require an official score report with the app, you are good, OP.
When your student gets their portal login, they should check the portal to make sure the scores are there. Sometimes application elements like scores take a few days to be processed by the school's system, so don't fret if they're not showing right away; if they aren't, just check back in a couple of days. |
