Ham on Thanksgiving AND turkey

Which of these is what I need for 2 "just ham no turkey" eaters plus 10 casual ham eaters?

spiral, honey ham, country ham, ham steak, mini ham

The word order in title of post makes me itch

But I'm not a ham eater so I'm clueless. I did look at Trader Joe's and the grocery store and they have different kinds of ham -- spiral, honey ham, country ham, ham steak, mini hams... What should I be looking for?

Spiral means that its bone-in and already sliced : they stand the ham on an its end and make cuts around the bone.
Honey ham has a sweet glaze on it.
Country ham is dry-cured, and will usually be saltier where honey ham is sweeter.
Ham steak is not what you want for Thanksgiving.
Mini ham -- this is probably a small boneless ham that would be good if you are only serving a few people.

Typically you will need 1/4 to 1/3 of a pound of boneless ham per person; or 1/3 to 1/2 pound of bone-in ham per person. But here, maybe a bit less since you'll also be serving turkey.

Hope your Thanksgiving is delicious!

Thank you! This is what I needed, a quick ham cheatsheet. I feel better about going to the store now. DH almost grabbed a country ham yesterday, now glad we didn't.

Seriously yum

Pick up a small (4 pound or so) spiral ham. The meat is already cooked. Just heat it up for dinner. It's good for sandwiches later too.

If you can't find a smaller spiral ham, you can freeze the extra ham and use it to make hash to serve with scrambled eggs for breakfast a few months from now.

That ends up taking a pre-ordered ham from someone else. It's first come first served. Never mind if you prepaid and expected them to actually have a ham for you. Just get a ham from somewhere else.

How about they just eat all the sides or be grownups and eat what's served?

Never known someone to get so worked up over a ham!

Most grocery stores have ham now - as others have said it is precooked. You basically have to warm it up. We have done that in a crock pot when the oven is being used for another main dish (put foil over the top if it is too big).

I don’t get this. They just pre sell as many hams as they want, but don’t set them aside? So what happens if you prepay and go to pick up and there’s no ham? Refund?

Go to Costco and pick up a spiral cut ham- this is probably what your guests are expecting. It is already cooked but heating directions are on package or you can serve at room temp.

That PP isn't correct BUT I would ALWAYS preorder from HBH! There are some years where due to air travel issues, weather in diff parts of the country, etc more people unexpectedly get stuck at home and need a last minute option for a meal. That's when they sell out.
