What would you do? Random kid showed up and set up a lemonade stand on our lawn

Lemonade stand in November? Poor planning.

OP, you did the right thing.

People are nervy. AirBnbers broke into my sisters fenced and gated vegetable garden. They dragged the table from the Airbnb into the fenced and gated veggie garden.

The AirBnbers were day drinking and partying in the middle of her strawberry, asparagus, tomato and squash patches. I could not believe it.

Was he in the yard? Or on the sidewalk?
In your yard I would have let him stay as a one time thing. Sidewalk you had no right to tell him to leave.
Lemonade stands are not known for being noisy.

Sorry is the kid on your mother in law's front lawn - like in her actual space - or the kid set up at the corner sidewalk? because the latter seems totally fine
and what did you do, say here's $40 bucks kid, scram?

I think the kid/mom were presumptuous and weird, but your concerns about noise etc are not real. Kid wasn’t hurting anybody. I'd have let them stay, and had a good story for my next mom's night.

I would have let them stay. I have never seen a kid’s lemonade stand that caused noise or a crowd (and I suspect OP hasn’t either).

I think this is a point a lot of people are missing.
This was not OP's lawn. It was her MIL's lawn.

So my first question is why did you not ask the MIL what to do?

Maybe they had an agreement? Maybe this has happened multiple times in the past and the actual homeowners never cared?

Or maybe MIL does care. Did you ask her?

Who cares. anyone who comes and screams? all previous treaties are off.

I’m sorry that the kid’s break from their mom was so brief.

I don't believe this happened.

My MIL or my parent would probably love it if a kid set up a lemonade stand on their lawn. I would ask them if they what they wanted me to do, even if they just got out of surgery.

It would bother me if it was my house. My kids had many lemonade stands when they were young but not on stranger’s property. My husband would tell me to relax and he would go outside and buy lemonade from the kid.

You are a loon FULL STOP

🙄
Let me bring my hot dog cart 14 feet into your lawn since you seem to be ok with this set up.

You did the right thing but why give $40? I don’t get that part.
