All have been very polit. Including the middle schools boys who did the trick or treat smell my feet chant. They did ask for potatoes (??!) to support some shenanigans they are up to but we did not have any only candy. Their chaos made my night.

Potatoes are an internet ToT meme and considered a brag worthy ToT score. I think it started with a house that gave kids a choice between potato or candy and the kids kept choosing the potato.

As the accompanying parent, I can say that the candy-distributors were all charming, they complimented costumes right and left, and my goodness, were some decorations extreme!
I don't even know where people store all that!

I'm just happy if the kids are happy. Sometimes they grab at the bucket because I tell them to choose but don't realize I need to lower it for their eyeline.

Manners improved as the night went on. The teens were earnest, complimentary and enthusiastic. The elementary school kids tried to be polite but were so rushed and excited. I love overhearing them run to the door and argue about who gets to ring the bell.

My favorite was the last group of kids who were 16-17 in elaborate homemade clown costumes. They were so excited to volunteer that their friend had just moved from South Africa and was trick or treating for the very first time. We had two tiny toddlers who started our night and ours was their first house and first ToT- they whispered “trick or treat” and then stood there and stared at me for a good 30 seconds without moving after I gave them candy.

Perfect bookends to the night!

I hate that many of the kids didn’t even say trick or treat nor did they say thank you. just rang the bell and opened their bags. Hard to fight the urge to reach in and grab a piece of their candy.

We had well behaved kids in 22030. My last TnT were two older teens. Polite and thrilled when I emptied the rest of my bowl into their bags.

We had very polite and adorable kids. The older ones who came had very elaborate and creative costumes and even played their character. My only regret is I should’ve given more to each kid. At the beginning, it seemed like we were having more than previous years but it really slowed down and I didn’t think to increase the allotment.

I was amazed by how polite all the kids and teens who visited us were - they all said happy Halloween and thank you. We do live in a very friendly Md hood though …

All the kids we saw out last night in DC were very sweet - not only to the people with candy but complimenting other kids on their costumes, watching out for littler kids when it got busy or crowded, etc. I packed it in early but I was really charmed by what I saw.
