What would be the agent's motive to lie? |
|
To be done with a transaction and get paid is the motive.
Also write an email to the agent rescinding your offer. Then get a new agent. |
Exactly. Why pay someone to service a transaction while preventing them from involving themself in the transaction.
Yes, and retain an attorney. A decent real estate attorney would have been all over these clowns. |
| OP here. If anyone is curious I received a signed counter offer dated today at noon. My guess is they couldn’t get people to go above my full price offer. With that said I’m not signing anything and will be moving on from everyone. |
They countered your full-price offer? |
Yeah greedy bastards. If you're not in love with the property and don't need to move quickly then I would walk, too. |
The house is 1.35M, I offered 1.30M and they countered at 1.35M and I said okay. They tried to use the weekend to get offers over 1.35M. |
Good for you. I think sellers and their agents play these games because buyers allow them to. Sellers should understand that by trying to find a higher offer, they are jeopardizing the offer they already have. This may have played well in early 2022, but right now, it is extremely foolish and risky. |
Expirations are silly |
What?! Why? You got what you wanted. You are going to walk because of some fantasy you have about what you imagine happened and it pissed you off? |
OP, good for you. I had previously suggested putting an expiration on it to give the sellers a chance to accept it. It's clear now that they're playing games. My biggest concern would be what house issues are they hiding. These sellers are dishonest. You do know that your realtor was part of this effort to scam you, right? |
I don't understand either. What's wrong with taking two days to evaluate all the offers? It's not like your trying to buy a stroller off NextDoor. This is a major purchase/sale. |
Because I accepted their counter immediately and was told I would have a contract to sign asap. I expected it the same day as verbally accepting it. They lied telling me it was coming 3 times and it didn't until days later. They didn't even sign the contract until yesterday. They dragged their feet and found out I'm not interested in games. |
That is so weirdly spiteful, though. You wanted the house and you got your terms at the end of the day. But you’re going to have a hissy fit and walk because you don’t like that you THINK they wanted to play games? WTAF? |
It's not 2022 anymore and their behavior is indicative of how the whole transaction would go. |
