I sub coffee for water! Doesn’t make them taste like coffee, just extra chocolate-y. |
Is it a 1:1 for the butter for oil substitution? OP here. Thanks for all these great ideas. I want to eat them all...and then roll down my hilly road to my neighbor's potluck. |
| Brownies. And vanilla ice cream if you're feeling fancy. Everyone loves brownies. |
This. Add some chocolate and caramel syrup, whipped cream, and nuts. I always take the same thing for potluck dessert - chocolate and vanilla ice cream and different toppings. Mini cookies, mini brownies, sprinkles, crushed pineapple, nuts, whipped cream. |
| Trifle. Buy a good pound cake. Get some decent fruit, pudding, whipped cream, slivered almonds. All you’ll need to do is make the pudding and whip the cream, and assemble. |
| + on brownies - I underbake a bit too as others have suggested and they are always a hit. |
| Use a mix. For brownies, look on the side of the box for add ins (caramels, marshmallows or Nutella). Or, a lemon square mix. |
do you warn people about the caffeine? |
DP, but i also use coffee in some chocolate cake pop recipes. It's a pretty small amount so I don't worry about the caffeine, but I don't make them for people who might not drink coffee for religious reasons (like Mormons). |
NP and I use decaf. I also love the ghiradelli boxed brownies. I’ve tried subbing melted butter for oil and no one has noticed the difference so I don’t bother. I do always use decaf coffee in place of the water. |
NO!! Fruit would ruin my brownie!! |
Buy 3 large candy bars, like Symphony bars and brownie mix for a 13 x 9 pan. Put half the batter in the pan, lay the 3 candy bars over then top with the remaining batter and bake. |
| I always take a bowl of fresh berries. Sliced strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. It goes very fast. |
This looks really good, but instead of assembling it as one big pie, I'd make individual servings in small plastic cups. Much easier to serve and eat at a potluck! |
I would love fruit as a dessert option. At our gatherings, fruit is often the most popular and runs out. |
