They spend $400-$500 for groceries and eat delicious, nutritious meals cooked by my mother. They buy most of their produce direct from local farms and farmer's markets through the Asian network (lol) and other things through Costco or Whole Foods. No alcohol.

Make sure to eat that OUTSIDE.

I'm the PP with a family of four who spends $350 a month.

This is wildly untrue.

We buy plenty of dedicated lunch foods at the grocery store. If everyone buys lunch at school and work, that saves us real money at the grocery store. Probably $50 a week for the four of us?

My husband is the cook - he limits himself to dinners that cost less than $20 for the four of us (including side dishes). Back when we were eating dinner out 3-4 times a week, that saved us over $50 a week! Plus, when your "special" meals are out at restaurants, you can kinda phone in food at home more - simple pasta dishes, etc. When you only ever eat food at home, we at least end up eating more expensive meals (like seafood) at least from time to time to mix it up.

I would say if we were all eating lunch out every weekday, plus having dinners out 3-4 times a week, that would move our grocery budget from $350 a week to under $250. So from $1400 a month to under $1000. That's a HUGE difference.

Obviously it's not actual savings because it would cost a ton of money to do that, but in strictly grocery store money, it makes a big impact!

$800-1000 family of five but the 3 kids are under 8. I dread our bills in 10 years with three teenage boys lol.

I buy mostly organic but wegmans/store brand. Dh buys Aldi/deals.

That also includes Dinnerly boxes (at $60 a week) to help take the mental load of meal planning off my plate 😂 .

We try to eat out only twice a week.

I’m shocked that people eating out twice a week consider that “not very often.” Twice a week is a lot!

For myself (only), about $400/month. That includes everything that I would buy at the grocery store--mostly food, but also cleaning supplies and such. I don't eat lunch at home during the work week, so that isn't included. I am a smart shopper, but do not regularly use coupons, nor do I regularly buy extreme quantities (Costco, etc.), as I live in an apartment that is too small to allow for stockpiling anything.

We rarely eat out. A bout of listeria nearly killed me so it's home cooking 99% of the time.
For 2 adults it can be anywhere between $200 to $400 maybe less. My husband over cooks.

But don't eat it in the kitchen, take it outside to eat it!

Family of five. We do takeout weekly (~$85, always <$100) and go out to eat (in place of takeout) once every 6-8 weeks. Our monthly grocery bill is $1400 for everything. HHI is just over $800K. We have three little kids and eating at restaurants with them is too much right now.

We eat out very rarely. Our grocery bill is around $1200 a month, 2 adults and one preschooler.
