| How much do you spend a month on groceries? How big is your household? |
|
Not us but my parents, household of two with weekly hosting of friends and kids for dinner.
They spend $400-$500 for groceries and eat delicious, nutritious meals cooked by my mother. They buy most of their produce direct from local farms and farmer's markets through the Asian network (lol) and other things through Costco or Whole Foods. No alcohol. |
| I spend close to $800 on groceries for a household of 2. We’re vegetarian and eat a lot of produce. |
| Family of four, and we never eat out; we do takeout maybe once every three months. Our grocery bill is shocking. Often close to $2k. |
| 2k per month? I net a bit more than that each month. |

Food is the one budget item that you’ll never get any consensus on. You’ll get radically different spends if one family shops primarily at Aldi/Costco, meal plans and shops exclusively off a list, never indulges in luxury items like fancy cheeses, etc.
You can very easily have a family of four spending either $600 a month or $2K a month. |
| Family of 6, parents and 4 teens. Lately, around $1500/month if you include Sam’s Club purchases and household supplies like laundry detergent. Maybe $1200 without those extras, just for food. I like to buy a lot of convenience, on-the-go things during their fall and spring sports seasons which consistently add to the cost. Winter and summer are usually a little lower. |

Probably in the $1000-$1200 range for a family of four, with two teen daughters who don't eat a ton. Its hard to say for sure because I buy a lot of food at Costco and Sam's Club, with secondary shopping at the grocery store. But I also buy paper, cleaning, and toiletry products at the clubs so its not pure food.
We do a lot of freezing and we are careful to use leftovers so there is little waste. |
| We do eat out and we still spend about $2500 on groceries each month for 2 parents, 2 kids, and an au pair. |
| Family of 4, we eat out maybe 2x per month, grocery bill is $350 a week, so $1400 a month. That also includes things like paper towels, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, etc. |
Same. My teens eat so much. |
| There is almost no one who eats out enough to impact their grocery budget, unless they work at a catered place like some tech companies. |
| We very rarely eat out, maybe once every few months for dinner and once a month for lunch. Family of four, we spend (these days) about $150-200/week. This doesn't count toilet paper, paper towels and stuff like that. |
Forgot to mention that my kids are 8 and 10, so no teens, and they eat breakfast and lunch at school (free). |
