There is almost no one who eats out enough to impact their grocery budget, unless they work at a catered place like some tech companies.
I'm the PP with a family of four who spends $350 a month. This is wildly untrue. We buy plenty of dedicated lunch foods at the grocery store. If everyone buys lunch at school and work, that saves us real money at the grocery store. Probably $50 a week for the four of us? My husband is the cook - he limits himself to dinners that cost less than $20 for the four of us (including side dishes). Back when we were eating dinner out 3-4 times a week, that saved us over $50 a week! Plus, when your "special" meals are out at restaurants, you can kinda phone in food at home more - simple pasta dishes, etc. When you only ever eat food at home, we at least end up eating more expensive meals (like seafood) at least from time to time to mix it up. I would say if we were all eating lunch out every weekday, plus having dinners out 3-4 times a week, that would move our grocery budget from $350 a week to under $250. So from $1400 a month to under $1000. That's a HUGE difference. Obviously it's not actual savings because it would cost a ton of money to do that, but in strictly grocery store money, it makes a big impact!
