Same and I know it’s going to get butchered |
I don’t think it’s a millennial thing. It’s the word for snow in Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. The default is going to pronounce it like a Romance language, and it’s going to be increasingly difficult to correct everyone as she gets older and the presence of Spanish/Portuguese increases. |
apparently i'm naive- but how do you pronounce this? only know the neve campbell way |
In Spanish it's "nieve"- knee-eh-veh. In Portuguese it's "neve" - neh-vi |
|
Neve won't be spelled or pronounced correctly her entire life. I'd hate to do that to a kid.

This |
| You could spell it Neiv if you want people to pronounce it like Neev, but people will call your child "naive," at least in middle school! |
In Italian, it’s “neve” - neh-veh It’s hard to explain the exact tone but all of these three sound closer to the way Neve Campbell pronounces it. For reference, [Neeev] doesn’t even sound like a word in any of those languages. It feels like an extreme mispronunciation of neve, whereas as [Nev] like Neve Campbell feels like saying neve with an American accent. |
I disagree. I think a lot of Americans would pronounce it like Eve but with an N. Some will pronounce it like Neve Campbell. It will be a mix (see Caroline pronounced -line vs -lyn). |
| I am not familiar with the name at all but if I saw Neve...I would pronounce Neev. I am neutral on it. I am a Nina and have never loved my name so Neve is similar in my mind. |
| I’m kind of shocked that anyone would pronounce Neve like Neev. That wouldn’t even be on my radar. I’ve only heard it pronounced as Nehv |
| I like it— why not just spell it Neeve? |
No. So many better Irish names. She will tire of correcting people |
|
I like Nev
Neeve reminds me of the Knights of Neet |
I am kind of shocked you know that many people with that name. |
