Why the shortage of turkeys and ham

Anonymous
Ham on the bone is hard to find outside of Holidays.

I posted a link to the ham nuggets. Ironically, after posting this am, i went to Whole Foods in Bethesda and they had case up front with frozen turkeys. This a new and assuming it’s because we are getting closer to Thanksgiving. But usually can’t find them and still no ham. Only the ham nuggets in the link above.

Have you asked the guy at the meat counter? They can usually get you whatever you want with a little notice.

I have a turkey in my freezer from last winter I’d give you. Nobody in my house wants to eat turkey.

OP,

Looks like you can order this ham today for pickup tomorrow in at the Organic Butcher in Bethesda.

Edwards Petit Country Ham
$69.99
This 2-3 pound cooked, boneless petite ham captures the flavor of Edwards’s larger Country Hams, yet is perfectly sized for small family events. It is hand-rubbed with salt, brown sugar, and black pepper and aged for a minimum of 3 months. This hickory-smoked Petite Country Ham provides excellent taste and is easy to serve. Sliced paper-thin, it easily delivers 15+ servings. It is packed in Edward’s traditional cloth bag, which also makes it perfect for gift giving!

A neighborhood butcher will sources these for you, or a family farm. We like to smoke turkey for sandwich meat, and yes, in spring and summer they are not readily sitting in major grocery stores.

I just bought a cooked a 4 pound turkey breast last weekend. It was purchased at Aldi, Butterball brand, and they had plenty more.

Costco also has an endcap with small hams this week. At least at my store in NOVA.

I had no idea those portions of ham that can feed several people are called “nuggets.” Very misleading.

Where are you shopping? I just went to Walmart and HT and they already have whole turkeys out. Safeway always has ham.

The stores near me always have a few of each.

+1, you don't get the big displays until closer to Thanksgiving. Trader Joe's doesn't even offer them until right before.
