FCCPS: why does no one post about it here?

Anonymous
Maybe because FCCPS parents are mature and address the issues head-on instead of griping here where nothing can be done?

We only have 1 set of schools, so no.

This. It's tiny and everybody knows everybody so many more fears of being outed or recognized. A lot of the nutter APS parents are even recognizable on here and APS is way bigger.

OP here. OK then! Can anyone tell me about Mount Daniel? We are moving there in November - not an ideal time for my kiddo in 2nd grade but it's unfortunately the only time we could do it.

She's a smart, sweet and shy kid.

I can't comment on Mt Daniel but my child did move schools in 2nd grade and it's completely a fine time to move. They are still so young and inclusive at that age. A lot of okay I'll play with the kid next to me. She'll do great I bet!

lol. They demoted the HS principal, the secondary Ed director just quit, they have inmense turnover in the high school, the technology never works, the fancy new buildings are a death trap and mentioning anything less than 100% shiny happy gets you labeled as a random crank.

As has been said before, kids there succeed because of their socioeconomic status not the quality of education.

"Random" Woke" religious holidays.

Okay.

You will love Mt. D and so will your kid. The second grade team is strong, most have been in their jobs for many years. It's a very warm, welcoming school and so is Oak Street so no worries for next year either.

Ah yes, “random” and “woke” religious holidays that have been celebrated for hundreds and hundreds of years in major religions. This is a perfect encapsulation of the FCC community - lots of people who like to think they are liberal and open minded but when it comes down to it, it’s a mostly white, mostly Christian community that is far less diverse or accepting of “outsiders” than surrounding areas. The elementary and middle schools offer a good education but the high school is a bit of a mess.

DP. I have not heard of any deaths but go up to any group of high schoolers and ask how many of them have been trapped or had maintenance issues while they were on the elevator. Report back.

The last part is true (and is true for any higher-SES school system). If the entire school administration and teachers of FCCPS were swapped out for the administration and teachers of an “underperforming” school, the students would do just as well — sort of proving the point that student educational outcomes are more about their neighbors than the school faculty. When a district is highly rated, it’s not because of the faculty, it’s because of who lives there. If faculty mattered to a significant degree, there would be no end of websites grading individual teachers and parents trying to place their kids with those highly rated teachers no matter the district.

Agreed - I just moved with a 2nd grader and she did great, pretty much exactly what PP said. We moved from that area and while my kids didn't go to FCC schools, we know a bunch who did from preschool and they were all really happy with Mt. Daniel and Oak Street. My older child played soccer on an FCC team and all the Oak Street girls were super nice and very inclusive of the handful of girls who went to different schools. I don't think you'll have anything to worry about.

Why? Because it’s just ONE (1) high school. Tiny! As compared to Fairfax County which has 22 high schools.

I do not think people are worried about being "outed" in an anonymous forum; it is easy to be anonymous here.

As for the parent who had a question about Mt. Daniel, we love it there. We had one child go through their and our second child is in second grade. We are sad that our time at the school will be over, but Oak Street has been terrific.
