FCCPS: why does no one post about it here?

Anonymous
I've noticed no one really talks about falls church city schools (FCCPS) here. Why is that? Surely there are challenges there too...

Because it’s relatively small.

What challenges are you looking for? My biggest beef has been activists on our school board that over-ruled the community and renamed our schools, push our start date up in order to remove federal holidays and add random, woke religious holidays instead. Other than that, I'm happy with the education.

Makes sense but still, kind of odd that no one has any issues with the schools?

People are scared they will be recognized on here.

Be careful what you wish for.

I doubt it. We have small class sizes, they don't make athletics cuts, I genuinely feel like the leadership (outside of the previous school board) cares about parents, kids and teachers. My child loves the classes and has straight As, that said, I know the academics can be challenging for kids. But I've never felt like the teachers or admin leave kids behind.

My child also has accommodations and they've never fought us on anything needed.

This is true - it’s a very insular community. Also, it’s small so there are many fewer possible posters.

I have subbed there and I agree with the PP who said they don’t fight accommodations. I was shocked at how many kids had them. I’m not sure how the teachers handle so many different ones in a class.

It's small and everyone knows everyone else. Therefore they talk in person. Since people know each other's business, it's very easy to figure out who is posting.

There’s no reason to post here unless you just want to complain. SB, superintendent and other leadership is very accessible. If there’s an issue I want addressed, I go to someone who can help - not an anonymous forum.

Is there any choice in FCCPS? At least Half the gripes/posts about APS involve option schools and boundaries

We only have 1 set of schools, so no.

No one posts because it is a very small community and when there are complaints, anonymous posters likely from the SB, CO or leadership quickly respond with their same talking points. Use the search feature and see yourself.

It's because FCCPS is a tiny community compared to Arlington, Fairfax, etc, not because it has fewer issues.
