Won’t the kids go to sleep at some point?

I'm guessing. But we're starting at 5:15. It would be hours until they go to sleep.

Sorry, that was annoying and my pet peeve.

That said, I am a pre school teacher and I wouldn’t want to deal with more little kids on my time off. So I understand where you are coming from. You have my blessing to cancel though I don’t think I would. I would just drink extra at dinner.

Plus 1
It is not like the KIDS are your responsibility

Situations like this, I being four “99 Banana” shooters with me and drink them in the bathroom (wrap them in toilet paper before throwing away in their kitchen trash) - then, I pound a couple beers when they’re not looking and sip / carry around my wine. They’re none the wiser and I can actually relax and enjoy the evening.

You should try it!

I wish there were a vomit emoji on this site. It's how I feel about your post. And it's what you'll be doing if you actually drink like this--such fun for your hosts to clean up after you, or for some Uber driver to clean the car after you've had your ride!

eh, I’ve been doing it for years. DH or friends never notice.

Don't lie to your friend like this, OP. Immature. This isn't a situation for using even a white lie to get out of it. Just either tell your friend "Hey, let's reschedule so you can have time with the grandkids" or go for dinner and bow out early and drive home. I don't get drinking more and hanging around to try to enjoy the evening by being more liquored up, though. Kind of dumb if it then involves a pricey Uber ride or a resentful non-drinking, designated driver spouse.

Start later, or else nicely tell her what you told us (that you’ve been with kids all week so please put on a movie for them or let them play independently so they don’t bother you)

What?
I live in the Midwest. If I could FIND an Uber I’d use it. And that’s the price it would be. On a Friday at around 7, easy.
We’ll have a couple drinks and head home.
Not sure how this is “caught.”

It’s a good idea to make it a policy to not make plans for Friday during the school year.

I’m not doubting the price of Uber. You have no intention of taking one. You just drink and drive.

like, 10, 8 and 5. It's her third day with them, guessing she's had enough. Think we'll go, drink more, leave early.

Drink more? 20 miles away? That doesn’t sound safe at all.

Ever heard of an Uber Karen?

Ever heard of not being a trash person?
