Sorry. the street isn't your personal parking garage. I don't care if someone parks in front of my house. But to do it for weeks? That's an ahole move. Sounds like YOU are the suburbanite, if you think it's acceptable to store your cars, undriven, for long periods of time. |
Too bad there's nothing you can do about it but sit and be mad. |
| Post on nextdoor or Craigslist free abandoned car and a criminal will steel it |
This is actually a pretty good idea |
Long-time DC resident here. wrong. I get mad for about a week, then I call a private tow truck. |
|
I don’t know the law in DC but where I work a car can be parked on a public street as long as it looks driveable and tags aren’t expired.
So a flat tire, broken windshield, popped ignition, not driveable. A public street can have out of state cars parked. The military often have out of state plates , students do to. ( someone in Law Enforcement) |
and they tow on who’s authority? Do you sign something? They can’t just tow cars without an agreement. |
Wrong. One can call parking enforcement, and they'll ticket you. Thankfully Alexandria parking enforcement is actually really responsive. Pay to store your non-driven vehicles, or move to suburban sprawl. The city isn't a place to park your cars for weeks on end. |
| We have done this in DC. INSTEAD of 'tagging' as abandoned on 311 (they will just give them tickets forever), tag them as 'nuisance'. Claim rats are nesting, trash etc. |
They will not ticket you for being parked on an unzoned street. I live on one and travel frequently for work. Lotta big talk in this thread from ineffectual people. |
Alexandria has a 72 hour rule on ALL streets. And they will ticket if you call or 311, thankfully. |
Please post every Alexandria law here. Fascinating stuff and we're dying to know more. |
Nah, you're better suited for Bristow anyway. |
| I have no idea what that is. A city in Virginia? I don't go south of the river. |
|
It’s three weeks. If you live in a walkable part of the city and can walk to work or work remotely, you might not drive your car for three weeks. Lots of military members have out-of-state plates legally.
It’s clearly not abandoned. People are just living their lives. |
