| Doesn't sound like a ROSA violation at this point https://dmv.dc.gov/service/registration-out-state-automobile-rosa-0 or any other violation, so you'll just have to live with it. If you want to get your street zoned for different parking (residential parking only, 2-hour parking, etc.) start by talking to your ANC commissioner. |
Bless your heart. |
Unfortunately not in this case. It’s pretty residential and not walkable to much commerce. |
| OP- since you asked about DC rules (and not Alexandria) I'll try to give you what I know about DC laws. This would fall under ROSA (Registration of Out of State Autos). If a car is parked for 60 days, consecutively, in the same zone, it is at risk of a ROSA violation. DC cares about this because they want the cars to be titled and tagged in DC if someone is going to live here for that long (they want the revenue). When we have had this issue arise in our neighborhood in the past I have found the first time a ROSA notice is filed it starts the clock. So even if you have seen the car for three weeks but only file the notice on line today- the clock starts today. As an earlier poster has said- bypass the 311 call center and file this directly on line. GL. |
| OP here to close the loop. I filed a ROSA report and a cop looked at the car. In the meantime, from the plate I was able to locate the VIN online, and then find the last sale of the car from a dealer out of state. I contacted the dealer who was kind enough to look up the sale and call the owner of the car. Soon after, the car's owner very kindly moved the car away, to in front of the house she was visiting for a couple of months. She was very nice and apologetic. Its good to know that sometimes people can be counted on to do the right thing. |
| How can a neighbor legally park for a month or so in front your D.C. home when there is ample space regularly in front of his/her house? That is so disrespectful. The registration sticker on car is valid. Not sure about the inspection sticker. Car needs to be towed as a lesson. What is person hiding not parking in front of own home? What’s up? If car needs repair then car should be parked at own home. |
Call a republican member of congress and complain about it, so they get used to what it will be like after they dismantle home rule. |
Do you think the car is still there after 18 months? |
| Let it be. May be they are sick or traveling or something. |
| I had the same issue in DC. I searched the internet for the license plate to find the VIN. Then I paid a few $$ to one of the websites that provided the owner's name from the VIN, and tracked down down the owner's address. Harder to find their cell, but if its not too much of a common name, you might be find where they work on LinkedIn or something and call them. You can also find public info on where/when the car was sold, and call the dealer to ask them to call the owner to tell them that someone was concerned about their abandoned car. |
I don't get why you are objecting at all. It's a legal parking spot. Do you prefer a rotation of cars in that spot? |
Where do you live? We have legal street parking here. The entire street is lined with parked cars every day. It's legal. Why would they tow? |
