It's not in the video. I researched it more after viewing. |

I was just at a horse show where this same thing happened.
Each class had 11 participants but only 10 ribbon awards. I felt terrible for the 1 little girl left out of every class. Especially because let's be real, awards after 3rd place are pointless. A few times it did happen where the little girl left without a ribbon was the single POC rider. Equestrian still tends to be a very white sport, too. Another senior class only had 2 participants so both girls got the huge ribbons and big trophies. To any outsider seeing that on social media, it probably looks like the grand champion is very elite and skilled! Wow! How exciting! When in reality even if she got last place, she still got a big ribbon and a smaller trophy. |
The child and their family should be the ones who decide whether to accept the apologies, not random people on the internet. |
That's different. Everyone was getting a medal here. There was no reason to skip her. |
No. Racist should be called out and bullied. Shaming them may not make them not racist, but it can make them go away. |
| Ask yourself why you would go looking for counter-info in this video. Every BW I know has experienced this, not gymastics of course, but the not being seen and hoping against all hope that it was just an oversight that will be corrected quickly. Because you can't get mad. Then you're angry. You can't point it out becuase then YOU'RE the racist. You can hope your parents stand up for you, but not all parents are comfortable with the confrontation for all the reasons listed. So, you sit there a hope and leave disappointed. That's the word-disappointed. No one feels vindicated by racism rearing itself, no one's doing a victory lap - you are just f-ing disappointed in other humans over and over again. |
Thank you for writing this out. It’s shameful that grown adults are looking for any reason to excuse an adult behaving in such a disgusting way. At least now we have video so they can’t pretend that it never happened, which is what used to happen. |
I agree completely, and I went looking for counter info. Not to excuse anyone, but to see if it was addressed. Even with the correction made, that little girl still stood there waiting and hoping only to be overlooked, singled out, and hurt. It's unacceptable. - WW |
| So, it's Ireland. Do any of you outraged posters know what that means? |
Does it mean that it’s still disgusting to be racist, especially towards a little kid? |
| That was really hard to watch. I heard about this through a Simone Biles piece on it. I just watched it here, and that is so sick. That poor little girl, just looking around wondering WTAF is going on. So unbelievably hard to watch, so I can't imagine what is feels like go through it. Poor, poor thing. Anyone excusing it is a broken, nasty person. That is inexcusable. |

It’s easy to believe that someone accidentally skips a child in a line. But this one had the woman giving out medals standing right in front of the child looking at her so it’s hard to believe it’s accidental.
It’s also hard to believe it’s racist because it was being recorded, everyone was watching including the parents and reporters were there. I believe them when they said she got her medal before she left. Impossible to believe her mother would let that go. She must have straightened it out and got the medal for her child. I would be right in that woman’s face asking her what’s wrong with her. |
Guess you don't know what it means. |

It happened over a year ago. They apologized privately immediately, and now publicly since someone tried to start trouble for ragebait clicks.
