Teachers, learn to use BCC in email

Anonymous
Disagree with you OP. Unless you opted out of having your info shared in ParentVue, then the teacher can share your contact info — and it is helpful for things like bday party invites. I get frustrated when teachers use BCC.

OP-it is parents like you that give MoCo County the bad rep they get. You sound insufferable.

You’ll be on team BCC too after the aspiring realtor in the class adds all of the parent emails into their email marketing programs.

And yes this was specifically against the rules and it still happened multiple years.

No they don’t! Gmail does not block bcc.

How did they email the whole class? I can only do that through Synergy and it’s unclear whether it’s bcc or not. I just click a button for class versus a single parent or student.

I’m old and use outlook with my .org address. It’s a chore to set up in the beginning of the year but I refuse to use synergy email.

Possibly, and yet the teacher is deluded because this is DCUMland. Aka the Thunderdome for parenting. Rational group discussion of DCUM children almost never happens.

You may not start or reply to emails via Synergy, but there’s nothing to stop staff, students, and parents from emailing you through it. Their emails will forward to your Outlook by default I think.

Yes, synergy forwards them to outlook ( although i think you have to set it to) but I still can’t reply to the original email via Outlook. I tell parents explicitly that i do not check or respond to emails sent to synergy. I give them my . org address, it is on them to follow the direction.

As a teacher myself, this attitude is unprofessional and disappointing.
While I prefer parents contact me through the .org address (which I say at BTSN), I’m still professionally obligated to respond if I receive communication through Synergy or Canvas.

I think something is wrong with your email because I do this multiple times a day.

Uh, no. Do not do this. It's rude and inappropriate.

You can:
a.) ask that in the future ONLY YOU are bcc:ed so that you do not receive replies and your email address is not shared
or
b.) ask if she has ever used bcc: and would she consider it? but even that seems beyond the pale

Violating privacy is rude and inappropriate.

How do you log your parent communication in Synergy as required by MCPS? How do you know when parents have changed email addresses? Synergy is set up for communication with families for a reason
