DC Soccer Club

This is our second year with DCSC, but this year we specified that we wanted to be part of the Brookland FC offshoot. I have no idea what difference it makes aside from the uniform patch and different playing/practice fields than last year.

DC Soccer's rec soccer is great and kids actually enjoy playing in it. Seem to be lots of kids who add on training with other clubs or DCYFC etc but I think it's primary mission has been providing the most soccer to the most kids and it still seems to do that pretty well.

My son has been with DCXI travel for over 2 years. While we live in Tenleytown, we head over to Takoma/Brookland and it's totally worth it. Terrific coaches, great culture, and my son has improved a lot and continues to love the game.

DCSC is great for rec but much less so for travel beyond U9 or U10. At the older ages they are much less competitive. Arlington or Bethesda are nearby and much stronger for travel.

DC Soccer is a rec club with a travel component, which is a shame because with organization and effort they could have a really strong travel side that competed with the Bethesdas and Arlingtons. As it is top players float away to more serious clubs.

Have had a great experience with DCWay, terrific coaches especially, and kids have fun while learning the skills. They do their practices in Cap Hill area.

agree with great coaches but the organization is a mess.

I have three kids with DCSC - 2 play travel and all three play rec. We have been really happy / impressed with the quality of coaching for the boys teams on the young side (U9-u12), there is some transition right now with the older side (U13-14) but I appreciate that the club saw some issues and is making some changes. I am impressed by new coaches and the new plans for U13-14. Anyway, nothing is perfect, but I’ve been impressed by DCSC and the level of positive, supportive coaching from cool local athletes in our community. Signed - D1 Mom

Exactly. With proper management DC Soccer could rival Arlington and Bethesda, but as it is DC Soccer sort of fizzles out of travel and the top players go to the other programs. It's really a shame.

What's the latest on DCSC? I've talked to many unhappy parents from different age groups lately- including at tryouts with other clubs. It sounds like there are a handful of good teams across the club, but many are not competitive. Curious as they are adding ECNL R. Will it be more of the same?

If ECNL R is good enough for LMVSC, it's good enough to DCSC (ps, it's not good)

DCSC has 3-4 very good boys teams in total, probably less girls. They have a massive field monopoly in the city though.

What I’ve seen is that DCSC loses some of their talented kids at U13-14. Adding the ECNL R level of play provides a more competitive level for the appropriate ages. But specifically for U13 and up, they now don’t need to look at other clubs to play; they can compete against them without a lot of travel.

But if families are unhappy with the training and development they are going to leave anyway. If convenience trumps these other things then maybe they will stay.

I'm a DC resident and wonder whether this is true.
Is it just management holding them back? What elements do they have to make you think this? They've been around for a long time, run a good rec program, and have always been second tier when it comes to competitive older age groups through many management changes.

Glad I came here as I signed my DS up for tryouts next week. Played in the rec league for years but need to take it up a notch.

Bummer that it’s not competitive. Guess we will look into DCXI and City Sports.
