Thank you. My most recent purchases were the Colette wide leg jeans from Anthropologie in Tall - they are a bit higher rise than I like being short waisted but I love them otherwise so probably will keep. I also found a Frank & Eileen Patrick popover henley at Nordstrom Rack for weekend wear. |
| Cashmere sweater, skinny jeans and casual sneakers or boots. Navy sweater blazer and thin scarf over top if I need an extra layer. |
I mean, this is how fashion works. Things go in and out of style. You can keep wearing skinny jeans if you want, but that doesn’t make them in. |
|
I love when it becomes sweater weather. Then I wear cords or jeans with a sweater and loafers or boots.
I love chelsea boots but can’t figure out how to style them with looser fit or wider legged jeans. |
+1 Things go in and out of style, and whether they are "in" has literally ZERO correlation to how flattering they tend to be. That overall skinny jeans look sounds dated and out of style (it's often more about the shoes and accessories than the denim). But that doesn't mean it's unflattering...wear what you want. |
I don’t understand, don’t they just go underneath? |

I'm 5'4 and here's my fall template this year --
#1: wide leg cropped jeans or trousers oversized blazer or roomy leather jacket over a relatively cropped top ankle boots, mary janes or low profile sneakers (sambas / onitsuka tigers) #2: roomy double breasted blazer over a form fitting midi sheath dress |
Where are you going? |
Do you have a picture of what this second one would look like? I have a roomy double breasted blazer that I’m trying to style …. Seems like putting it over a fitted sheath dress could easily go wrong. |
|
At work, I am wearing fitted merino sweaters, blazers, wide leg cropped pants, Rothy’s or boots.
Outside of work - wide leg jeans with sweater blazer, shell or casual button-down, and driving mocs or Doc Martens. On more casual days - same jeans with a Marmot or PrAna pullover and Onitsuka Tigers |
| I am okay with wide leg pants but why cropped?? That looks good on no one. |
I think this is an antiquated picture of how "in style" is defined. This may have been the case previously, when there were few voices determining trends. Now that there are so many fashion influencers or just people creating / trying trends, multiple trends can coexist simultaneously. I think this article in the NYT addresses the topic well. I think there are others but I don't feel like looking. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/24/style/high-waisted-pants-mom-jeans.html |
Sort of.. but not exactly. It is true that multiple trends can coexist, but the fact that some people are still wearing the exact outfits they wore 10 years ago doesn’t mean that those are fashionable. Of course wear whatever you want… but this is the fashion forum so when people ask about what to wear this season, I don’t think they are asking what someone who pays zero attention to current trends is wearing. |

I splurged on a pair of Chelsea boots. I have a cheap, uncomfortable, decade-old pair that will be traded for these new ones. I hope they fit! The Zappos order is on the way.
This summer I impulsively bought a big bold wool coat, so I’ll wear that with my new boots. Boots and coat are probably all I’ll buy, except for something Halloweeny next month … unless my costume can be “cool coat and boots witch.” |
