Vote Maureen. It’s time someone cares about renters

Are you kidding? Between pickle ball courts, dog parks, and missing middle, all this county does is court renters.

Seriously. The political math is already tilted towards renters, and the trend is only going in one direction.

But this thread is pointless - the two winners will be the ones who win the Dem primary. As is tradition.

Voting for Susan Cunningham because I like her. Voting for Fierro because we need some diversity and I can’t take Clement seriously.

She's not ready yet - some potential there but does not really get it.

I knew nothing about Susan but was very impressed with her when she spoke at a recent event. Audrey has a lot of facts and data which I liked - she would certainly keep the board in check which is much needed.

Why is Maureen not ready? She has more experience with local government than Susan.

That's only one data point - there are many factors that go into evaluating a candidate.

Can you explain why you feel Maureen isn’t ready?

No much experience in general. Work exp is at a think tank. Has not lived in Arlington long enough to understand the county and its complex needs.

It’s quite simple actually. She’s a creation of the Center of American Progress. Knows nothing about local Arlington issues. Understands national issues better.

What about providing more housing and expanded services for the unhoused in Arlington?

A lot of unhoused don't take the services that are provided - that's not a problem unique to Arlington though.

Here's a recent article on the Langston Blvd redevelopment plan (which has now replaced MM as their hot topic) current Arlington County Board: https://www.arlnow.com/2023/10/16/arlington-county-board-sets-hearings-for-next-month-on-langston-blvd-plan/

Quote from current board member de Ferranti:

"This is a burning priority for me and so, this almost rises to level of office vacancy rate for me,” de Ferranti said,..."

(FYI: Arlington County’s office vacancy rate was 23.7% in the first quarter of 2023 per ArlNow article.)

And this word salad from Libby Garvey:

“The more we can figure out some tools, and continue to work on getting better tools and continue monitoring, that will get us closer to our goals.”

Um, what?

Can't fix existing problems but let's go ahead a make another mess over here on Langston Blvd. This is what we are dealing with folks.

The comment section is brutal - very detailed analysis that the County Board is taking a "ready, fire, aim" approach. But what else is new?

Ah yes, the Arlnow comments section. NIMBYism at its finest!

The two on the Dem sample ballot will win - Cunningham and Coffey

That said, I’m voting for Cunningham because I think she’s a good candidate and Clement because I think the county deserves her kind of chaos after routinely ignoring constituents and doing whatever they want.

you missed the "detailed analysis" part. seriously, did you read it? very detailed, legitimate policy questions that have big implications for the proposal. but go ahead and put your hands over your ears and go "lalala can't hear you". you'd fit right in with the CB

+1 plus Coffey is a Cristol follower and that is def not what Arlington needs right now.

Other than being Katie Cristol's self appointed successor, what experience does Coffey have in local government?
