Is this typical BTSN

They should reschedule it for sure! It’s not too late to recognize your mistake!

Does this suggest that it would be ok to do it if there's a small population excluded, esp when most/all other schools schedule on weeknights? Plus, it's not just about the student population -- it's about whether teachers are unnecessarily being asked to choose between their faith and their jobs.

Nobody should be excluded!! This principal should be ashamed

Simply a case of not thinking more than anything malicious.

Plus many western calendars acknowledge Christmas eve but not Erev Rosh Hashanah/Erev Yom Kippur. So non-jews don't realize that holidays begin the night prior.

We’re not asking for anyone to learn Hebrew, just to have some basic cultural awareness. Night events should never be on Fridays.

No, our school had BTSN on a Monday.

However, I am sure the date will be changed after the principal found out the error.

The principal is apparently sticking with this date and Monifa/BOE are not stepping in.

MCPS spouts off their narrative about equity and inclusion when it works for them. As a teacher and parent in this County, I become more disgusted daily with the administration!

What accommodations should schools make for Eid?

Resnik's BTSN has been moved to September 29th

Inclusion and equality is only important when it impacts sone groups. She has yet to do anything real about the antisemitism. It could be an honest mistake but should have been changed.

To be fair, unless they have a high percentage of Orthodox Jews, this is unlikely to have nearly the impact that holding it on Erev Rosh Hashanah would have. Most Jews do not keep Shabbat strictly. I belong to a Conservative shul and the people who truly keep Shabbat strictly are pretty much the clergy and a few religious school teachers and older adults who are pretty unlikely to have school-age children.

If they have a large Orthodox population then it is a crappy move. Otherwise, whatever, you can't please everyone all the time.

What is the deal with the Friday evening scheduling? If I were a staff member there I would be pissed. I guess that makes up for having Monday off

September 29th eve is also Jewish holiday (although less popular?) - Sukkot.
Also - what a horrible idea having it on any Friday night. Our school always does it either on Tues/Wed/Thurs.
