At tier two, spectators are limited to students of the home team’s school only, as well as families of student athletes. Other fan capacity limitations may also be imposed, and game times and date may be moved around to maximize daylight and allow more collaboration with police.

This is such a dumb thing, the school system and the police are working together to make sure nobody is charged, nobody is suspended or expelled and the kids who do things the right way suffer.

Dr. Mooney and the Chief are yes men for the county and can't decide what to wear without consulting them.

Great, I look forward to more high achievers moving to private school. Enjoy the resulting test scores.

What on earth are you talking about?

My high achieving RM alum went to one football game about 8 years ago. There was a fight. He never went to another game but that would never have caused us to send him to private. I do not think many families would make such a big change relating to football.

This has nothing to do with football. Basketball has tons of fights. Other games less than those 2 but I've heard of a fight after a soccer game.

It is too bad.
When my son was younger, I sometimes took him to watch varsity soccer games at the neighborhood HS. I was not a parent there at the time. But my son loves soccer and it was fun to watch the games together. Not something one can do in the current environment

It only refers to football games.

To me it's the overall MCPS handling and attitude. But it's been that way for many incidents over the past few years. Their mishandling is nothing new.

I did not mean football specifically but any sport. I would not be oh no...he will not be able to attend away basketball games. Lets pay 40K a year for private to fix that.

Imagine how much you'd save if you didn't have to live in moco only to have your kids treated like criminals. You sure can't let the. Walk around Bethesda, Germantown silver spring etc or go to parties. Being able to socialize with other friends is one of the reasons we moved here. Between that and the schools, i wouldn't make the same decision today as i did 15 years ago.
I hear Urbana 's nice.

Not only is MCPS mishandling this situation horribly wrong (again), but the messaging continues to be about "the physical altercation". In the video that went around alone, there were actually TWO different assaults occurring. However, there were multiple others that occurred...including at least one where the child had worse injuries than the one in the viral video.

Proves again that MCPS has a narrative that they are going to push. Sadly, I'm confident Monifa would not acknowledge anything had this video not gone public.

This school system needs new leadership quickly!

Respectful correction to the original post about Tier 2 games:
* Spectators capped @ 75% of stadium capacity
* Students must present a school ID
* Backpacks are not allowed
* Increased police presence in areas where students gather after games

If and when MCPS drops to Tier 1, then only players and parents will be allowed to attend.

Unfortunately, yes, these are all reactive measures as has been shared and seen throughout the county both in and out of the classroom. However, something has to be done to curb the uptick in violence in our general society, both verbal and physical. The schools and county services can only do so much without the assistance of parents and guardians to take ownership for their children/offspring.

BTW- upon review of videos, students involved and identified have been pulled and received notice: 10 days suspension with grounds for expulsion.

The attacks happened off school property when kids were their parents responsibility. While MCPS has far more than their fair share of issues, a big part of the blame is on the parents.

All of them (the offenders)?

1 by 1....the wheels of justice grind slowly...
While the incidents occured off campus, schools are required to follow the Student Code of Conduct tiers. I truly hope everyone who has commented about this topic, has circled the next PTA and BOE meetings on their calendars. Things won't change until we demand change.

“It is unsafe to have a high school football game under normal conditions” is a terrible message to send about the county.

You're not making sense. You are saying that fights have nothing to do with the sport, unless the sport is soccer which somehow in your mind is free of any sort of violence? What's the difference between football/basketball fans and soccer fans?

Also since you've never heard of a fight after a soccer game, I give you:

Yes you will be fine. They won't be letting in unaccompanied high school aged kids who can't show ID. That's all.
