CVS now requiring app to pick up your prescription

That makes me positively CRAZY. Why must they close for lunch? Why? Can they not staff the counter and alternate lunch breaks?

And I get my receipts emailed to me so no more long printouts. I picked up a prescription in NWDC a couple of weeks ago and didn't have to anything with the app when I arrived. I'd say maybe the only slightly annoying thing are the sale emails are one or two a day...but I just delete and move on.

I doubt you even know what the app is doing. They track your movements around the store with AI. They will send you “coupons” based on where you spend time in the store. Your browsing habits are sold on along with your use or none use of coupons.

I used to use the app during covid because it was so easy to pick up my RX but it’s become more cumbersome to verify the payment so I stopped. Not required to use the app 8n Fairfax, at least not yet. That would make me switch since it’s not as easy as it once was.

CVS is terrible. Sure go to lunch but make your hours of operation visible to everyone! Make everyone aware of it. Their website for my location doesn't even show that they close for lunch. Open 10am-6pm. They knew I was standing there, behind another customer. They helped that customer, then I started walking up and they attempted to close the gate on me. I blocked them from being able to do it, I physically placed my body in between the register and the gate. What they should have done is the minute I walked up and got in line someone behind the pharmacy counter should have said "Ma'am can you come back we're going to lunch", honestly i would have been annoyed but would have understood. But to have me wait in line all that time until after they were done with the person in front of me, then shut the gate on me? No, not ok.

+1 The CVS near me is actually quite good (not in the DMV). I have a kid with a chronic medical condition so I'm there a LOT. The pharmacist is great and has helped me out on a number of occasions. I like being able to refill on the app but I never have to prepay or show it to them. It was a $hitshow during and right after covid but i has gotten 1000% better since then.

I despise Walgreens and will never step foot in that he!!hole again.

Wonder what happens if you say you don't have a smart phone. Surely it is the case with some elderly folks.

Yes. Someone try that and report back.

But I agree that CVS is terrible. The pharmacists and pharmacy techs are really unhelpful and some are just flat out unintelligent. I was there recently and overheard one of the techs having a loud conversation on a speaker phone about another customer's prescription--said the customer's name, date of birth, the medication they were getting. There were about 4 of us standing in line at the time. Unbelievable.

My CVS requires me to say this when I go up to the counter.

There's a difference between quietly providing your information when you get to the counter and the pharmacist saying the info into a phone loud enough for the entire pharmacy area to hear when the customer wasn't even present. I was third in line, so at least 20 feet away from the counter, and I could hear everything. There is no justifiable reason for disclosing a customer's private health information like that.

They do this ALL the time. Drives me nuts. And everyone there is usually rude.

Yes - this seems impossible. I pick up prescriptions for family members but I don’t have their info in my app because they are over 18.

Thanks for the heads up. I used to think my husband was weird for using Giant as his pharmacy, but now I may switch. They are professional. Last time I went to CVS they told the guy in front of me that he waited too long to pick up his prescription so they put it back. He would have to get it called back in. Then they tried the same thing with me. I explained I had dropped it off the day before and told them I would pick it up at 4pm. It was 4:30 (because I had waited in line). The woman looked at me for a second and then admitted they were having problems and had them fill my prescription right then. I wonder how many people walked out without their prescriptions because they were lieing.

There were about 7-8 people pecking at their phones, 4 people waiting in line because they could not login and more people showing up who had to be told to download the app.

The hack- say you are picking up for someone else. I hear the CVS app is very invasive- tracking your movements through the store and other things.

I am done with CVS and their mile long receipt.

I ditched CVS for prescriptions back in 2015 or so when they told me it would be a three day wait to get amoxicillin for my child. They are trash.

+1
I just picked up a prescription yesterday. No app.

Wow, that sucks. I get my kids Rx from the CVS on 14th St SE and they are not doing this... (yet??).

I haven’t experienced this in Bethesda. I use the app. It’s the only way that I can come close to refilling prescriptions and confirming whether they’ve been filled. Most times they haven’t. I really don’t shop in the store for anything else so I guess I don’t care if I’m being monitored. But I hate their pharmacy in general.

Yep. There’s no privacy. I tried drive through just so I could have privacy and not have to say my DOB in front of strangers. I don’t know if other pharmacies that are better. Target has even less privacy.
