Shows to binge watch on maternity leave

I did finally get through one during an evening after I went back to work (6+ months later.) pride and prejudice. 2004 version

I’m confused. During my 6 month mat leave, I watched 15 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy. What did you do while nursing in the middle of the night?

Don't you get it?? PP is just a much BETTER mother than the rest of us. Her kid is definitely going to Harvard.

We weren’t comfortable watching anything with the baby in the room.

Huh?
Is this a thing?

Is absolutely a thing. I didn’t watch a single show on my mat leaves, didn’t want the babes staring at the screens. Besides I quickly learned I never had the time anyway.

They can't see more than a few feet when they are that small. You're a strange, crunchy mom.

A few off the top of my head - all pretty recent!

- The Afterparty
- The Other Two
- Ted Lasso (obv)
- Slow Horses
- The Bear
- Somebody, Somewhere
- White Lotus
- Platonic
- Station 11 (this one's slightly older - it's incredible but intense and might bring up pandemic trauma, if you have any)

Oh, also:
- Reservation Dogs
- Our Flag Means Death
- And Just Like That (but only if you loved the original SATC and would watch anything just to spend more time with these characters - first season is BAD, second season is bad for the first half, then gets surprisingly good!)

I had plans to recaulk the tub and plant a garden. LOL! All I could muster was staring off into space as the baby nursed every 2 hours around the clock. Following a plot was too much for me!

Turn the baby in a direction that prevents them from watching the screen. You don't actually mind your baby hearing things do you?

I did. I'm not a woo-woo parent at all, but their little brains are sponges and their ears work as well as their eyes. TV is a a very heavy, very intense aural stimulus.
I watched TV, but on mute and read subtitles.

I wouldn't say it out loud in person, but yes, I felt the same way. I might use earbuds for a show and turn them away, but I generally tried to read, propping a magazine or book on a book stand so I didn't have to hold it.

In the middle of the night with a newborn I needed to focus on the latch and then would just shut my eyes and rest till it was time to switch sides. Once we got the latch down and baby was bigger, I did side lying feeding, pick the baby out of the arms reach co sleeper and basically fell back asleep until time to switch. If I tried to watch a show I would have been a total zombie the next day.

Pp here. Lol. I’m not a better mother- I clearly stated I had grand plans to watch many series. But once my first baby was born, boy were things a shock. I had a tough delivery and trouble nursing. Plus my baby didn’t sleep. Like, at all, not for more than 45 min stretches unless being walked, held, or driven somewhere. I spent most of my mat leave tethered to a pump or holding my son while he slept. Sometimes if the nap in my arms was a solid one, I got in some random episodes of a streamable show. But certainly nothing consistent, at no point in the day, unless it was during an overnight pump. And any time my son was sleeping for a short period of time, I was taking care of the rest of life- cooking, washing bottles, showering and maybe laying down myself.

Lol! Yes, my first mat leave was a clusterf****. My second was easier though- had a nanny by that point who I retained on mat leave, and my second was a better eater and sleeper. I still didn’t have time to watch a ton of tv though

NP. I’m excited to hear this. I have watched so many Australian and New Zealand shows and just love them, about to finish Wonderland so now I know my next series!

I wanted to love this, thought the writing was funny and the main lead terrific. But the partner was INTOLERABLE and I couldn't continue.

The partner got better as the series went on. I almost gave up, but I enjoyed the way the show was playing with mystery tropes and she did get a lot better.
