Indoor recess and PE due to heat through Thu, Sep 7

I wonder if the "my kids had recess today in 100+ degree temps and are okay" people also think safely getting home after driving drunk means thats a smart choice too. The logic that because something isnt harmful to 100% of the population 100% of the time is so special.

I saw teams practicing at SJC last night.

oh ffs. healthy kids spending 15-30 minutes outside in the heat is not like drunk driving. they aren’t newborns. the problem is more that it’s uncomfortable and staffing issues probably make it hard to allow indoor/outdoor recess as the kids choose.

You intentionally misunderstood. The act of playing in those temps isnt the same as drunk driving...the flawed logic of "well nothing bad happened so it must be okay" that people apply to life is what is similar.

Ok so nobody should ever do anything because anything could be unsafe!!! never trust your past experience or common sense!

+1 I wonder if pp is always this dramatic. I am from the Caribbean, and this is a regular summer there. do you think people stay indoor from
May to September? There are school without A/C and kids still go to school.

Um nobody said that...

Kids get overheated more easily than adults and the supervision at recess and aftercare is typically not especially up close with each child. Its not great to do indoor recess all week but it is safer.

You can see the tweet from the school...technically this was for during the day, so if coaches moved their practice to the evening (or maybe had 3/4 of the practice indoors and then went out for the remaining), then so be it.

That's definitely correct. There is definitely not enough staff to run double recess and give kids a choice. Teachers need time to eat lunch and prepare for the afternoon. Running double recess would pull double the teachers, and then no one would get any break.

This may be true. But being in the Caribbean and being exposed to this weather or no ac regularly means their bodies adapt. We don't live in the same conditions so our bodies have not adapted and need additional precautions. I am sure if the weather dropped to 30 degrees in the Caribbean, they would make adjustments too.
