? I'm talking about the process of voir dire, if it applies here. I am not a lawyer. |
In DC? Not a chance. The evidence against him is overwhelming and only like 5% of DC voted for Trump. Plus a significant number of that 5% really just voted Republican, not Trump - they may be selfishly vested in cutting taxes for the rich and gutting government services, but they're not in the Trump cult. The odds that a juror makes it onto the case who is not only a Trump voter but also a Trump cultist is extremely low. |

For Federal, do they only pool from DC or from the surrounding areas?
I live in Loudoun but was called for US District Court in Alexandria pre-pandemic. Wondering if it's like that. |
That's the voir dire question. |
You are in Loudoun, but I think you are still in the federal Eastern District of Virginia, that’s why. I’m pretty sure the DC federal district only pulls jurors from DC. - also disappointed in Maryland |

Do only DC residents handle all jury trials for crimes related to Federal activity in DC?
That's... interesting. DC feels like it should be different from other "local" Federal districts. |
Ha ha. No, seriously. |
| I hope my DD gets called for the jury. It would make for an unimpeachable college admissions essay. I'm glad I redshirted her, and now she has this once in a lifetime one-in-100,000,000 chance. |

12 jurors. 5% Trump fans: 1-.95^12 = 46% 1% Trump fans: 1-.99^12 = 11% |
That's assuming jury selection is completely random. I'm not sure how many peremptory challenges the prosecution gets in DC federal court, but if it's anywhere close to 5% of the jury pool that's basically game over right there. If they get challenges beyond the peremptory ones I imagine some significant portion of that 5% works in GOP politics or are big GOP donors and could have good reason to be disqualified. Plus military, police, and firefighters, which skew disproportionately Republican, are all exempt from jury service. Political appointees as well, though I doubt there are enough Republican appointees right now to make a difference. |
