He has a lot of supports within the organization evidence the standing ovation during his speech. He's also a vice-president of UEFA which has not been commenting about the situation.
A powerful man. |
All the more reason to take him down, as well as the rest of the organization. This kind of toxic power needs to be stopped. |
+1 I worked internationally for years and witnessed Penn like this - There is a lot of toxic power like this in the world. This has been an interesting discussion to have with my teenage daughter - who loved watching Spain play Her thoughts were if this is what he does on camera in front of the world and this is how he is backed - imagine what else goes on. |
| Did nothing come of Vilda grabbing the breast of a staffer while celebrating? Deemed accidental? Loving all the players—male and female—public ally rallying around Hermoso |
| Now Vilda has turned against him. |

Watching this unfold the last few days I was kind of sick to my stomach that the Spanish women’s team’s great victory has been overshadowed by it -
But then I started thinking, no, it’s good that he behaved that way and that there is now this moment of reckoning for machismo culture in Spain. Spain IS changing, but just like USA there are backward misogynists trying desperately to hold women back and keep their status quo of exploitation of women in place. It sometimes takes big moments and fights like this to awaken and raise the consciousness of the people. I think the tide is turning and when the dust settles Spanish women’s football will be a different animal and a better place for women. |
| Totally agree, PP. The machismo machine is digging its own grave. And now the whole world can imagine what these women have been dealing with for years. |
| It's crazy that all these elite activities like soccer and chess and Olympics are run by a bunch of scummy clowns. Every time one of these Presidents of a sport talks, imagine they are one of the incompetent people at central office for your county school, people who got promoted out of the classroom because they were terrible. That's what sports league officials are. |
Remember Penn State, USA Gymnastics, Hockey Canada, etc, etc. those are just the sex scandal. The NCAA makes 1.2 billion dollars a year. That makes the NCAA the 5th largest sports league in the USA and they do not paid their athletes. |
| His mom has locked herself in a church and is on a hunger strike. This family is ridiculous ! |
Yeah, I heard that too. I just shrugged at the manufactured drama. Mommy doesn’t care about the woman / women her son has abused, but she expects people to care about whether or not she chooses to eat? SMH. I do look forward to hearing whenever she decides to end her strike — and seeing if she looks well fed or not. |
If more family members follow suit, the problem solves itself in a month or two. |

Aitana and Wiegman are all class in the wake of all this. Wow.

| I was at the Sprit game Sunday night. Folks chanting "contigo Jenni" (with you Jenni). |
