Rubiales Spanish National Team

Spanish soccer chief Luis Rubiales has refused to resign from his position as Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president following a week of fierce criticism after video showed him placing an unwanted kiss on a star player of Spain’s winning Women’s World Cup team.

Rubiales was speaking at the federation’s Extraordinary General Assembly on Friday and said he will “fight to the end.”

In a defiant speech, he described the kiss as “mutual” and spoke of “unjust” campaigns and “fake feminism,” and emphatically said, “I will not resign” several times during the almost 30-minute address.

Rubiales, 46, was filmed forcibly kissing Spain star Jennifer Hermoso – who helped La Roja win its first Women’s World Cup title on Sunday in Sydney – on the lips after she collected her winners’ medal, an act which the 33-year-old World Cup winner later said she “didn’t like” and “didn’t expect.”

While Rubiales was applauded at the assembly by many in the audience, his comments on Friday also elicited further criticism, especially from some members of the Spanish soccer community, including Hermoso’s international teammate and two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas, who called his speech “unacceptable.”

Spain international and Real Betis striker Borja Iglesias said he would not play for the national team “until things change,” while Spain’s acting second deputy prime minister, Yolanda Díaz, called for Rubiales to “resign now.”

“Mr. Rubiales still has no idea where he is or what he’s done,” wrote Díaz on X, previously known as Twitter. “He’s not up to it. He needs to resign now and save us the embarrassment,” she added.

People are describing his speech as like the Wolf of Wall Street speech. Let’s see where this sh#t goes. Looks like the men’s team will join the women’s team and not play.

This guy is a real piece of work. Additionally
The coach (different guy) coerced her to just go along w Rubiales apology and say he asked if he could give her a quick kiss or something . Coach needs to be out too. It is DISGUSTING that these women have to deal with this after winning the World Cup.

And for him to just sit around saying I refuse to resign. Absolute garbage

Following Rubiales’ comments on Friday, the president of Spain’s High Council of Sport (CSD), Víctor Francos, said the council will look to suspend Rubiales as quickly as it can while following due process.

“The government starts the processes today, so that Mr. Rubiales will have to explain himself to TAD (the Court of Arbitration of Sport) and we announce as well that, if TAD sees it well and if CSD is in position to do so, I’m announcing today that we will suspend Mr. Rubiales from his position of president of RFEF,” Francos said, while adding that he believed “we’re in position to call this the ‘Me Too’ of Spanish football.”

The CSD is an autonomous decision-making body of the Spanish government’s Ministry of Culture and Sport and has the potential power to demand the removal of Rubiales, but to do so the body needs to follow a series of required steps, including having a complaint filed against him and the case having to be heard in front of a tribunal.

I think it’s classy that the men’s team will stand in solidarity.

Both the men's and women's head coaches stood up in ovation during his defiant speech "I'm not going to resign."

I have only see on Men player come out. What has Álvaro Morata said? You know he will be asked. If the men stand with the women’s team it would be a strong statement.

Barca’s statement was pathetic. Real Madrid’s was strong.

Yes, I’ve only heard about one as well. Where are the rest?

Morgan took to social media platform "X"(formerly Twitter) and labelled the incident as "assault, misogny". In scathing criticism of the Spanish Federation and Rubiales, she extended her support to Hermoso.
"I'm disgusted by the public actions of Luis Rubiales. I stand by @Jennihermoso and the Spanish players. Winning a World Cup should be one of the best moments in these players' lives but instead it's overshadowed by assault, misogyny, and failures by the Spanish federation," wrote Morgan

Good for Alex Morgan.

I do not understand the grabbing your crotch and grinding while standing next to the Queen and her 16 year old daughter. Let alone sexually assaulting a player on world wide TV. Maybe you apologize, say you took 5 ambient and do not remember anything? No you keep it real(like that David Chappelle show skit).

At an emergency meeting called because of your actions you stand up and tell everyone it was consensual(she asked for it). You will not be bullied by the fake feminists and give a 4 year contract worth a 1/2 million a year to the women’s coach because “they” tried to do the same to him. The room stands and applauses you. Everyone has to go.

It’s 5 am there. Let’s see what happens tomorrow. Everyone of the men’s national players, clubs, etc will be on record in a few hours. Silence will be viewed as support for Rubiales.

I watched the final with my daughters and we pulled for Spain despite the coach. As a man I am very disturbed by his actions and worried for the Spanish players. That was a very public sexual assault. You know he is most likely much worst in private. Let all remember the report issued by US Soccer.

The Spanish federation says it will take legal action to defend his reputation.

Un-effing-believable.

Hermoso said on Friday she did not consent, but the federation has questioned her version of events.

"The evidence is conclusive," it said. "Mr President has not lied."

In a statement by players' union Futpro, which is representing 33-year-old Hermoso, she is quoted as saying "in no case did I seek to raise (lift) the president" while they embraced on the podium.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) said: "The RFEF and Mr President will demonstrate each of the lies that are spread either by someone on behalf of the player or, if applicable, by the player herself.

This is from The Athletic. This man is digraceful, and the women who didn’t play in the WC have been vindicated in their decision.
Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), celebrated Spain’s victory on the biggest stage for women’s football, the World Cup, by touching his crotch.

He only apologised because Queen Letizia and Princess Sofia of Spain were by his side. As if to say that, without them in front of him, this would have been an action worthy of the head of the national game in Spain.

And then, in a speech that will forever haunt Spanish sport, he tried to justify himself; a justification even worse than the act itself.

“I’m going to say this looking at Jorge Vilda (the Spain women’s manager),” Rubiales said. “I got very excited, to the point of losing control. At the moment we won the World Cup and your reaction was to turn to the box and dedicate it to me.

Spain players to refuse call-ups over Rubiales; Hermoso: I did not consent
“I replied that no, it was yours. I pointed at you and said ‘you, you’. At that moment, I pointed at you and said ‘ole your balls’. Of course, I have to apologise to the Royal House.”

He touched his genitals after the greatest triumph of Spanish women’s football and dedicated it to a coach, a man, saying “ole tus huevos”. Can there be a more shameful way to disgrace the 23 female footballers who made Spain the World Cup champions?
