Family culture at the Heights?

You’ll be fine as long as your DS has a platinum or diamond encrusted 24 carat cilice. Anything more modest and you’ll get the side eye.

Identifies? Like is genuine interested and devout? That’s wonderful. But I’m not sure what would appeal to the parents if they’re not in it for the catholic education.

There is daily mass.

By DC Metro standards, you can translate that into "He said a lot of the kids were Republicans. Catholic, even!"

pp here.. DC's friend's family is Catholic, but I don't know how "catholic" this kid is. I do know that the parents are Rs.

The Heights is filled with families who have modest lifestyles. Over 50% of students get need based aid. Several kids who graduated in my year had to chose far lesser of academic colleges because of money. Further, the teachers at The Heights live very modest lifestyles and make far less than those at any other private or MCPS public.

Like any other DMV Private, there are also SOME ultra wealthy, including a Billionaire's sons.

As far as "racist" goes thats ludicorous. The school is of Hispanic descent and has a large portion of black students. The class above mine was 25% black. Sure an incident pops up every few years, but its nothing like what we see at Gonzaga, Landon...etc.

Please feel free to fire away with any other questions!

AL is like 26% Black, but there are still lots of racist white people in AL. Just sayin.

No, because the Heights is an all-boys school.

And what does “identifies” as Catholic mean, exactly?

Is it true they have no female teachers at all? So strange.

Women only in Admin or support roles. This is not the case at local girls’ schools, BTW. Very strange and notable given that teaching is a predominantly female profession.

It’s an all boys Opus Dei school. Why would you expect women?

Anyway, my kids go to a similar type school in the Midwest, very trad Catholic classical school with daily Mass. Many of our families are middle class. Most qualify for school vouchers. We don’t, and we are middle class by DCUM standards.

If you are devout, it will be no problem at all. Faith unites our families more than financial status. If you are not devout, you may feel left out simply because the tone of the community is Catholic. I am actually not Catholic (I am a Protestant married to a Catholic and raising Catholic children), and I am welcomed. I am open about being a Protestant but I do go around arguing that purgatory doesn’t exist at school functions. Read the room kind of thing. I do have a deep respect for the Catholic faith despite our differences.

I mean I do NOT go around prattling about Purgatory. Typo!

I haven’t seen that at all.

Wow, are you serious why wouldn't the The Heights have any female teachers? Just because it's all boys school doesn't mean that they need an all-male faculty. I cannot imagine teaching or learning at a place so rigid in their thinking that they only hire male teachers. It's 2023

Boys need positive male role models. I think that having a male faculty is great!
