Water bottles for lunchboxes

We get the 16oz Thermos Funtainers. They don't have a straw so they're easier to clean and don't get chewed on. I wouldn't say money "grows on trees" for us but we probably spend $60 a year on water bottles? School isn't a problem, because there's a lost and found. They get left other places.

We use the thermoflasks with the straw. Sure they chewed but it’s easy you clean and it’s kind of hard to totally destroy with teeth. We didn’t have much luck with Funtainers because if you press the button accidentally in the bag, your bag will be flooded.

Thanks for posting. I wrote off Thermos awhile ago because I assumed they all had those straws or stupid long spouts.

My kid uses Kleen Kanteen, but the stainless steel is heavy.

$15 sounds about right. My kids use Simple Modern water bottles. They're easy to clean and come with an extra straw.

sometime you can find some of these brands at tj maxx/ home goods/ marshalls for less.

We use hydro flask, klean kaneetn and thermos. I have a larger size and a smaller one I can fit on the side of the lunchbox. I bought either on sale or at an above store. I have never paid full price. I have some interesting colors, but kids love them. I don't want their water sitting in the plastic all day especially if it's warm. I don't think that's healthy (my opinion).

We haven't lost one yet, but had damage from chewing, so had to explain if we have to buy a new one you need to earn that $. Helped them to respect their items more.

I also get little straw cleaners from Amazon that I use to clean the straws and smaller areas to make sure they get clean then dry it out for the next day.

Did that work to respect their items more? We having tough time to do these. My kids chew their bottles, draw and scribble write crazy stuff on their back packs because friends do it. Then later think it’s ugly. Sorry! They have to live with it ahead. And so we are also not replacing the hydroflasks or their spouts. It’s only October!

We use thermoflasks too. They look like hydro flasks and the tops are interchangeable. The straw does show signs of teeth marks if they chew them but it is pretty hard and while it shows teeth marks, they don’t break. I have a carinabana to attach it to their lunch bag.

Our metal Camelbaks are going on school year 3 (DS7) and year 2 (DD4.5). We have ones without straws and have only needed to replace one lid over the years because the plastic hinge on the flip cap finally broke off. The cap is still functional but much easier to lose two pieces than one. A couple of the bottles have small dents but overall they're still in great shape. They were ~$15-20, depending on the color.

We use these too but they do run about $17. This size also wouldn’t fit in a lunchbox but my kids have never lost their water bottle.

This year we also got Takeya - but the gaskets are hard to remove and replace for cleaning so I’m not a huge fan.

I'd spring for the bigger ones that are better made if your kid is responsible enough not to lose it every few months. Personally I don't prioritize having the bottle fit inside the lunch box. It's ok to carry two things. If you buy one that's too small and your kid is weird about refilling it during school hours (weird as in has some executive functioning issues), then they might get dehydrated.
