Montgomery County (MD) Animal Shelter urgently needs adopters and fosters

Do they only get Pits or do the non-pits get adopted out quickly?

I’ve stalked the site over the years. My observation is that they get other breeds but they go very, very fast.

We are cat addicts, currently have 4. No room at the inn as a result, but a favorite came from the MD animal shelter. Wonderful, calm temperament.

Adopt a cat at PetSmart.

+1 and Hilly looks to be a non-pit and very cute.

Where is the information on how to foster?

Because we don’t have a stray dog problem on this country. We have a stray pit problem. It’s amazing that in just a couple of decades pits have totally taken over shelters. This didn’t used to be the case.

Probably didn't even need to be said, but there is not ONE single dog available that's not a Pit mix. Not even a 17 year old Schnauzer in the rotation. :sigh:

+1 And some innocent child in a family will be the potential victim. Most of these dogs are likely not suitable as "family dogs."

Hilly is the one and only non-pit mix.

I tired to adopt a dog from them several times. Each time they wanted me to fence my yard, which I told them will cost me thousands of dollars. They didn't budge.

I went out to West Virginia and rescued a dog on site. Arrived at the shelter and was driving home with the dog 2 hours later.

I fenced in my yard a year later, when i could afford to do so.

My wonderful boy is a pittie mix, got him at 4 years old.

I think it’s absolutely fine to require a fenced yard. It’s critical for dog safety.

That's like saying all parents should be required to fence their yards for their children's safety. Also, they need to have a certain amount of education and money in the bank in order to be permitted to reproduce.

When i adopted my cat there they told me that nearly all "adoptable dogs" go within 24 hours of intake.

We already have 2 pitties, 4 cats, and 2 bunnies. No more room here, but I wish we did.

I love most dogs, just not those small ones that are nasty barkers and biters. I've never met a sweet gentle small dog. I won't go near one, nor do I let my kids.

We too have gone out of state to get our various family dogs without all the rigamarole. Heck, they'll hand them to you practically free.
