7 and 9 year old obsessed with Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Yeah. It's the age. Our kids did the same at that age. They read every single one of those books. We still have them all.

Amazingly, all of our kids developed into fine young adults who got into good colleges. And they still love a good fart joke.

My 8 year old read all of the DOAWK books in a few weeks and then re-read them all 3–5 times in the past year. He was obsessed! But now he’s moved on (to Harry Potter). He can only handle 1 obsession at a time. I don’t love the DOAWK books but they’re better than a lot of popular kid book series (Dog man, magic tree house, captain underpants) and sometimes they are actually kind of funny. We watched several of the movies as a family and even my husband and I enjoyed them reasonably well (for kids’ movies)

Yes, it's normal. My kids are 18 and 23, and they were both obsessed with those books when they were in elementary school. Great books. I'm curious why you are worried about it.

What is with these books? I keep trying to get them into hother authors, and they read other books, but none as much as these. Is this normal?

Very normal. My son read them over and over laughing every time. Then he forgot about them and moved on.

I love those books too. They’re hilarious. I wouldn’t pick them up myself but when my kids read them to me we have a great time.

LOL. My middle schooler who reads above grade level still goes back to Wimpy Kid sometimes. And Dog Man.

It could be worse, Captain Underpants worse.

I was volunteering at our school library last week and the librarian said that is by far the most popular series and that she can't keep them on the shelves. Also apparently Garfield is having a moment? Who knew?

Yes! My did too and they enjoyed the movies, so did I

They are 19 and 17 year olds now, I really missed and love that age/time! So sweet and fun!

My ten year old son read them all and loved them. He and my father will read together over FaceTime and they have such fun together. The books are just about kids doing stupid things and trying to get out of trouble. All very innocent.

It's a comic book essentially so try to see if they want other comic books. Reading is reading.
