going rate for 14 yr old babysitter?

Anonymous
Mine gets $15 per hour.

My 15 YO gets $20 an hour.
She typically watches 2 elementary aged kids.
I told the family it was too much - they informed me it was the going rate.

Yes it is, with a work permit.

A 14yo I have paid $12 an hour in moco
She’s 17 now and still babysits for us and we pay $15 an hour. She’s a neighbor so no commute and we pay cash.
One kid.

Omfg no one is getting a work permit for a 14yo to babysit.
Some of you all need to calm down.

Mine states to clients that her rate is $12/hour, but they all pay her $15/hour.

OP is in MD where 14 year olds are legal to work.

There are restrictions about the kind of activities they can do (e.g. not driving heavy machinery) and the hours (e.g. not during school hours) but they can absolutely work, and childcare is absolutely a task they can do.

My kid gets $15 an hour.

We pay $25/hr, but the babysitter is exceptional.

No one said that this kid needs a work permit. Someone said that 14 isn't legal to work so the people hiring 14 year old babysitters don't need to offer minimum wage. But 14 year olds can legally work in MD, with a work permit which is super easy to get, so if you want a babysitter to choose your job over a fast food job or bagging at the grocery store, you probably need to offer a competitive wage.

$15, if someone has issue with it, don’t babysit for them.

My daughter makes $10/hour as a mother's helper. SHe's 13 years old.

No one is making a 13 year old pay taxes. No one is asking for a work permit. DCUM is weird.

If you have a good babysitter, you shouldn't pay her/him less because they are 14 years old versus 18. But $25 an hour for an inexperienced babysitter who can't drive is crazy talk.

My DD is 14 and has a real job on the books for which she makes $13/hour. She also babysits and makes between 15 and 20 per hour. Babysitting definitely pays more.

$15 in Kensington for HS babysitters.

But isn't his summer job on the books? He should be willing to take like, $12.

"on the books" means that he pays taxes, and kids typically don't make enough to pay taxes, so it doesn't matter if he is on or off the books.

I don't understand why the pp's kid would demand more money to babysit then he makes at his summer job, though.

They still have to file. And a lot of parents in this area can't risk paying under the table.
