My 14 year old makes 14 at his summer job so no chance he would babysit for less than 16.
But isn't his summer job on the books? He should be willing to take like, $12.
"on the books" means that he pays taxes, and kids typically don't make enough to pay taxes, so it doesn't matter if he is on or off the books. I don't understand why the pp's kid would demand more money to babysit then he makes at his summer job, though.
Of course it matters. Everyone who is “on the books” pays mandatory taxes like FICA, even a 14 yo making minimum wage. It’s Federal, state and local taxes they may not owe. So yes, something is being deducted from every paycheck. |
+1 I pay my 14 year old to watch my younger kid $15/hr. Now she makes this from our neighbors and to watch some of the friends of my younger one. I think this is a fair rate. If you want to low ball a kid, feel free, the kid can always say no. |
I would pay this for an experienced college student who is preparing food and doing things like driving or homework with my kids. Heck we paid our FT professional nanny $35. |
| I think anywhere from $12-$15 would be reasonable depending on # of kids. |
