I would be surprised if they put Rosslyn back at Williamsburg. Look at the parking minimums they are letting APAH get away with in their new developments at Queens Court and Marbella. Then look at the bus routes to Williamsburg. You can try to advocate for Rosslyn to get on a cross county bus, but it’s not going to happen. |
Cross county bus? Stop being exaggerating. That's where those kids went before Hamm and it was fine then. |
The difference between the Rosalyn to Yorktown and Rosslyn to Williamsburg commute is maybe 2 minutes. The Rosslyn to Hamm bus is about 6 min less than the bus to Williamsburg As someone who got moved to a more walkable elementary school, I strongly advocate for keeping those in walking distance as walkers. |
Exactly. |
I’m talking about public transportation, not the school bus. Presumably you want parents to be able to pick up sick kids, etc. you should have said something when they were approving all the new developments with no parking. |
DP. A lot of people did speak up about the parking. If you are regularly involved in the public planning process for Arlington County, then you know that they are reducing parking in developments across the board. There’s nothing anyone could say to change that. Trust me, the parking people show up to every meeting. |
+2. They are going to Yorktown so it would make sense to change the MS to Williamsburg. Good for the school bus route, good for keeping planning units together, good for diversity. The Williamsburg diversity is frankly pitiful. |
Rosslyn should be going to WL. You drive past it halfway on the way to Yorktown, just like you drive past Hamm halfway on the way to Williamsburg. |
In your scenario, who gets carved off to go Yorktown to make up Rosslyn’s population? |
And then the DHMS walk zone would still be bused? So you want to abolish HBW — I could get behind that. |
Pull from below 50. |
Same. No more option schools, no more brain drain. Saves the taxpayers $$$. |
But which neighborhoods wouldn’t “pass” WL en route to Yorktown? I’m not sure the commute would be any shorter. |
No you don’t. A rosslyn bus would go up Lorcam and Langston to YHS. WL is a 1/3 of the county south of that on Washington. |
[list]
Zero traffic, YHS is 13 min, WL is 9 min. But WL would be on a much more congested route so real world times would be a wash. |
