| OP, I totally agree. And I also feel this way about idiot people who deliberately travel through NK or Iran or other no-go areas and are then arrested/jailed. Why do we spend our resources trying to get idiots out when they *deliberately* went there? |
| It is easy to be holier than thou. If it was your kid doing something stupid, you would want help too. |
| He’s a 21 year old PVC who was already in military jail for various crap he did. He’s not a nut you guys, he’s a freaking idiot. That’s it. Some people are chronic mess ups. |
well, he is not my kid. let him hang. |
He was being returned to the US for misconduct. |
Yes. He was supposed to be escorted out of South Korea to face disciplinary proceedings in the US and, presumably, expulsion from the Army. He was previously in a South Korean jail for assault. But they dropped the ball when they delivered him to Incheon Airport. He did not get on his flight obviously. Instead he appears to have somehow latched on to a tour group to the DMV, where he gleefully ran across the border and defected to North Korea. This young man is a profound dumbass with a long record of stupidity. He never should have been in the Army to begin with, much less sent to a sensitive location like South Korea. His entire command structure is in for a world of hurt. Careers will be ended over this. The US shouldn't do a single thing for this idiot. He does not have any meaningful intelligence. He made his choices. The consequences should be his and his alone. |
| Thank god our military believes more strongly in "no man left behind" than the "tough titt!es" philosophy some of you believe in. I don't care if the guy is an idiot. We have a responsibility to our own, dumbasses or not, voluntary actions or not. |
As I said, a dummy. I'll be honest, I didn't know any details when I posted this, just that someone who purposefully (or accidentally) goes to North Korea is probably a dummy. And now that I know the detals, I'm right. A dummy. We save people when they get themselves in trouble. Even if they're being deported from South Korea for a dumb bar fight. And from a more neutral perspective, it wouldn't be fair to South Korea, or to justice, to leave him there. He was in the process of being transported to the US for trial. That needs to happen. He took a detour but we'll finish the process. |
This guy isn't going to end up being held if he portrays this as a voluntary "escape" to NK (which the footage will back up). He's going to end up doing NK PR. |
| Kinda reminds me of the Bowe Bergdahl situation. Except in Bergdahl's case we had Taliban detainees to exchange for him. |
"no man left behind" pertains to leaving a man during war, not people who defect and turn traitor. What concessions will the US have to give up for this idiot, who seems to be a f*up? Let him rot in NK. He seems to think his life will be better there. |
Sorry, no. It pertains to those going AWOL, those looking to escape US prosecution, heroes and traitors alike. It is about the mission of the military, not the worthiness of the soldier. |
| C'mon, everybody knows that the grass is redder on the other side. |
oh please, no it doesn't. It pertains to fallen military members. |
