He was being sent back to the US.  He was brought to the airport by guards but they couldn’t go through security so once he was alone he found a way to leave the airport.  And go on a tour of the JSA.  It’s a really bizarre story and a really bizarre decision on his part.  Perhaps he had a mental break of some sort.[/quote]

Wow, this is even worse for the CoC. Why wasn't he put on a military flight out of the country? Or, at the very least, you coordinate with local SK police to get this guy accompanied to the gate and on the plane back to the U.S. This is so dopey and ham-handed.

Yes. He was supposed to be escorted out of South Korea to face disciplinary proceedings in the US and, presumably, expulsion from the Army. He was previously in a South Korean jail for assault. But they dropped the ball when they delivered him to Incheon Airport. He did not get on his flight obviously. Instead he appears to have somehow latched on to a tour group to the DMV, where he gleefully ran across the border and defected to North Korea.

This young man is a profound dumbass with a long record of stupidity. He never should have been in the Army to begin with, much less sent to a sensitive location like South Korea. His entire command structure is in for a world of hurt. Careers will be ended over this.

The US shouldn't do a single thing for this idiot. He does not have any meaningful intelligence. He made his choices. The consequences should be his and his alone.[/quote]
