Short course champs at UMD just have a different vibe to them and feel like a real championship meet
Long course champs are pretty ho hum
This is true no matter the location, LC season just isn’t the same.
I will say it doesn’t get any better for the older kids. Fewer of them attend, many scratch finals, people are working around summer league schedules. The big travel meets are pretty good, but local PVS meets are blah.
The best club swimmers are not scratching finals and “working around” summer league schedules. Summer is rec league, when it comes down to the choice between summer swim and a PVS meet, the best swimmers prioritize the PVS meets.
Yes and no. The local meets work around summer swim. I know a lot of club swimmers that will scratch after All Star Relay carnival or scratch from Sunday night finals. If kids are going for NVSL records and their team needs them, they will go for it.
I know no club swimmers that are scratching club events and champs meets because of summer league. At our club the coaches wouldn’t allow it.
Things are very different depending on true championship meet (PVS vs those traveling to NCSA/Futures/Zones), age, coaches, etc.
The majority of my kid's training group aren't swimming a PVS meet, or may swim one day, and definitely might scratch those finals because it isn't their full taper/focus meet.
My kid swam in an PVS open final Saturday that couldn't fill the C final. Another kid on our summer team specifically didn't swim the PVS events Saturday to be at our summer meet.
The 12&u and 13+ meets are scheduled without Saturday morning events, that is not the case for the open meet.
