US Supreme Court Rules Against Affirmative Action in College Admissions

White students will not benefit. LOL. Be careful what you ask for.

Now do (1) legacy admissions, (2) development admissions, (3) faculty admissions!

The initial response here is a layperson’s one. Not sure that’s a helpful perspective.

College applications cannot have boxes to check indicating an applicant's race.

Surnames can be a big tell.
Need to have name- blind admissions

However, unlike many on this board kept arrogantly asserting, the end of Roberts' opinion clearly specifies that universities MAY NOT use essays or any other soft means to set up essentially the same system in effect today. That means they cannot use a "back door" to still discriminate via soft methods. So, sorry racist people on DCUM, your dreams are shattered lol

Asian poster who posted just before you. Oh no. I have no such hopes. Institutions will always find a way of discriminating against us. Before Asian students, it was Jewish students. Maybe the "personality test" has gone the way of the dodo, but criteria will always be rewritten so that universities can cherry-pick exactly who they want. And that will not include too many Asians for the foreseeable future. As you've seen, test-optional admission is here to stay, which says a lot already.

It's just that now, discrimination of Asians is not codified into law. A small step.

1. White applicants will see a benefit when they move to geographic or ses diversity (just not the inners uburb UMC white applicants)
2. Equal protection applies to race not legacy, wealth, or parental employment

go race-blind. use whatever criteria that the colleges see fit but not race.

In synopsis I glanced, the Court summarized affirmative action is stereotypical, something to that effect, assuming all race thinks alike, are similar, etc. I guess affirmative action assumes certain people are just naturally challenged intellectually. This is a great day for URM, as they will no longer be assumed to be inferior. Those who make it will be presumed to be qualified. Finally, URMs will receive equal treatment under the law. It's a great day in America when all people, whites, brown, and blacks are judged by the content of their character.

There are so many "soft methods" that you can't even imagine.

The elite colleges and universities will continue to amass a super-diverse enrollment. Ha!

Check out California after it banned affirmative action. It worked in California.

Applicants must be treated based on their experiences as an individual, not as a member of a race.

Okay to mention how race has affected one's life.

Cool story bro. Look what happened to URM enrollment in the states that banned affirmative action previously

It's hard to engage in that kind of conspiracy without it leaking and there is too much liability if it does leak. They'll switch to SES and first gen for diversity. US news will have to switch too and those rankings are half the reason most schools care so much anyway.

That will take decades. Whether URM recognize it or not, damages from AA is long-lasting.

Are student-athletes assumed to be inferior?

Are third-generation alumni students assumed to be inferior?
