WWYD: nail tech cut my toe

I do my own cutting. I tell them not to cut anything. I guess it's a polish change?

Since I'm only doing this once a year I'm really good at cutting my own nails and I prefer them short.

I pick a color I have at home, or remember the name then buy the color. That way I can fix any chips myself.

Curious why you bother going at all for a once-a-year polish change?

I'm wondering too. If you're doing the hard part at home, why go into the salon just for a polish change every year? What do you do the rest of the year? No judgment if you just keep them plain but it sounds like you like to keep your toenails painted.

I’m betting PP just goes in for a special event or something.

eeeek stories like this freak me out. I do my own nails (and only clip the nail- don't clip skin/cuticles-that sounds scary) because I don't think I could settle myself knowing someone is coming at me with something sharp to my nails.

I'd have been a lot more vocal- would have repeatedly asked for another bandaid and would have cleaned the HECK out of it when I got home. I'd have requested a discount if not the charge be removed (no idea how this works- 10% for the one toe? More?)

But my best advice is to check that mole with an MD- not due to the cut, but due to the mole to rule out skin ca.

If my gel chips two days in, I would absolutely go back and ask for a touch up. If you are a regular, they shouldn’t charge you. But I would tip whoever does it.

The toe thing is bonkers. That said, I doubt the nail tech is empowered to make a decision about charging you or not, so may not have crossed her mind that that was an option.

Chipped nail, the world is coming to an end!

Be careful with nail salons, people. You can pick up diseases if they cut your skin (hepatitis for example).

I'm a runner so polish never stays on. I just paint them whenever I'm putting on sandals. But I'll go on average once a year with girlfriends or for a special occasion. Usually in a group. Not of my own volition.

^^I'll go to a salon, that is.

Yeah but all they're doing is painting on a color she has at home?

This. Nothing to be done now

I think I am done with nail salons. I got a fungus on my thumb(!) late last year and I am still dealing with the effects.

She was probably a nervous wreck watching a foot bleed for 45 minutes. My sympathy with OP here, but also sounds like a horrible day on the job. Never go back to that salon is the best and simplest solution for all involved. Get the wound looked at.

Ugh, I'm in Alexandria and the last time I went to my regular place at the top of my street in north Old Town, I got a different person and she dug around in the area between my skin and nail on my big toe, which hurt like hell. I stopped her but my toe still swelled up for a few days. So, no, no recs from me.
