| As a vegetarian I think it would be fantastic if if someone could grow a slab of steak or white breast meat and we could minimize or stop the slaughter of animals and just industrially produce hunks of edible protein. |
Ha I almost posted a similar comment then didn’t because I figured the op was too stupid and self centered to understand. And this is why people have negative opinions of vegetarians… |
|
Ha, good luck.
Meat is not just cells. Tell Spanish and Portuguese that ham is just cells from a pig and that the acorn diets they feed the pigs doesn't matter for flavor. Laughable. |
| I agree with the PPs. I don’t like/eat meat either. I’ve tried the beyond meat brands and it’s too meaty. But we’re not the target audience for those either. I’d rather have a regular veggie burger. My carnivore spouse though might enjoy this. |
I am an omnivore, leaning towards carnivore, and I would love this. It'll never replace all meat, because you just can't replicate the taste of some meats in a lab, but certain cuts and uses? I'm all for it. |
Humans are omnivores. Animals are food. Good grief, who cares? Do lions care about how the gazelle feels when they're disemboweling them alive? Some.ofntue most endangered animals in the world are in fact specific breeds of livestock. There's no reason to grow those animals anymore if they are of no use. You know what's worse for chickens being raised for food? How about making them go extinct because they have no use of we force people to eat lab food. |
| My H has been vegetarian his whole life for cultural reasons. And he's meh on fake chicken/beef/etc. He prefers the tase of true veggie burgers like PPs above, like black bean burgers. Now I eat meat though not as often anymore, and I've tried meat substitutes and would consider trying new kinds. We've driven by all those cattle farms in central California and it's gross. I would support an effort to use more "fake" meat and save real meat and chicken to be from free-range kind of places (but therefore more expensive). |
It is my concern, though. If I want to live and let live, let the animals live. I feel like this only encourages meat eating, and like smoking, it's time to de- normalize. |
Yes. And everyone wins. |
| I wouldn't eat it but my kid who is vegetarian might. I don't like the fake meats. |
| I like the idea of it, as a meat eater (sometimes) who wants to avoid animal suffering. As it is, the way I address is by reducing, but not eliminating, eating meat. However, lab grown meat seems more consistent with my goal. |
Humans are not onnivire obligates. |
| I'm a vegetarian for ethical reasons, not because I hate meat. So, fake meat is a nice option sometimes. It also gives me more vegetarian options to feed my family, who are not vegetarian and will balk at meals with no animal protein. |
| I love meat. I don't want to participate in animal suffering. I hope cells don't suffer. This issue is incredibly close to the abortion issue frankly. |
| I have been vegan for 15 years and vegetarian for 30 years. While I would never eat lab grown meat myself due to the yuck factor and concerns about personal health issues (cholesterol, saturated fat, lack of fiber, excess iron, etc.), I am so happy that it will be available as an alternative to those who eat meat. It will significantly reduce animal suffering, deforestation and greenhouse gases. I am 100% in favor of it because I don’t think we will ever get to a point in society where people will give up on eating meat. |
