I agree with most of this, especially the Vibe distinction. Bethesda does have an ever-increasing number of tacky McMansions, however. |
So wrong…. School is equal at best. Madison is highly desirable school with top academics, equal or better to schools in Bethesda. Vienna is known for being the suburb of well off doctors. There is a “judgement” map of Virginia. Look at what they labeled Vienna neighborhoods as… “rich doctors”, “crazy rich doctors” etc.. The area on the north side abutting McLean and Great Falls is highly sought by tech executives (tech people everywhere because it’s between Tysons and Reston). Yes, the homes are giant McMansions but so what? That’s a negative? Can’t afford it so you’re hating on them? |
| Please sell your house and move. We need more inventory in Bethesda. |
| McLean, Langley, and Marshall high are higher ranked than Madison so how does it make sense? |
| I feel like that cute Maple St area is pretty much all there is to Vienna. |
Marshall games the US News ratings by making kids take IB English. But for that ploy, Madison would be rated above Marshall. Langley and McLean have more high performing Asian kids than either Madison or Marshall = top ratings. |

Vienna.
Maryland is circling the drain, economically. |
Yes, because that’s the level of analysis that people use in making decisions. Vienna must be all doctors and McLean all contract companies. Makes sense. |
Asian kids in general make it difficult to tell of a school is good. I only say this is I went to a heavy Asian HS that was terrible yet top 50 in country. They all had tutors, SAT/ACT coaches, professional college essay writers, did not work at all during HS and studied around the clock. The teachers sucked and it was hidden from stats |
FYI the majority of Tysons is actually Vienna (the rest being McLean and a small bit Falls Church). |
I think the point was that Madison is equal or better than schools in Bethesda in response to comment claiming that Bethesda schools focus on academics more than Madison does. I do agree that the Bethesda monologue, including this claim, was a bit delusional. In any event, Marshall, Langley, McLean, and Madison are the four high schools that cover Vienna (so where your children go depends on where you are within Vienna). So the idea that somehow schools in Vienna are academically inferior than Bethesda schools is delusional (if anything they are better, but I personally think saying “on par” is more appropriate because you can’t go wrong with Bethesda or Vienna schools if you are a good parent). |
Vienna kids also attend Oakton High School, since you’re including areas outside of the town of Vienna. |
Asians know Vienna has a lot of racist white people who care more about sports than academics. |
Vienna kids are zoned to Madison, Marshall, Oakton, Langley, South Lakes, and Falls Church, depending on the address. |
Only Langley is on par with the Bethesda schools. |
