even if you decide you aren't ready to install a washlet right now, since you are renovating, definitely go ahead and install a GFCI-protected outlet on the toilet wall, down by the toilet base.
if you decide to spring for one, I prefer the toto K300. (SW3036R) I got one for myself right before the pandemic started, and while I'm not sure i'd refer to it as life-changing, it is very nice. especially after I gave birth. We bought another one to install after we remodel our other bathroom. |
| Gyno said bidet attachments are causing my UTI's which turned into kidney infections and she tells all her patience who are prone to UTI's not to use them. |
You are ambitious |

My DH insisted on one when we re-did our bathroom and I am probably it's biggest fan. I LOVE it. I'm in my mid-50s and after 3 pregnancies have hemarhhoids. It's hard to get clean with out a bidet and, as a PP noted, once you're used to 100% clean, it's hard to go back to 70-80%.
I also highly recommend getting heated tile floors. That, too, is an amazing gamechanger. I think I love them even more than the bidet. |
i... maybe don't blast your urethra? does she also tell you not to use a handshower in the shower? i'm not sure what you're doing, but yeah, if using a bidet is somehow causing a uti then don't do that. just like wearing stockings every day used to give me utis. i don't do that anymore. ...but i don't tell other people that they shouldn't wear stockings. |
| Yes |
The hand shower analogy is incorrect. PSA: The unique risk with a bidet is that it can blast poo-poo particles 💩 straight into the vulnerable-vag, basically a waterborne back to front wipe scenario, thereby causing a wicked-nasty UTI. |
| You probably need to adjust your position if it's causing a UTI. |
um. the rear wash should only be aimed at the rear, and the water direction should only go back. (my toto allows for multiple users and custom settings for people that are different heights/sizes.) the seats that have a front wash should also be carefully aimed. your seat was poorly installed or not adjusted correctly. under no circumstances should the water that washes your butt end up in your vag. and yeah, if you can't adjust it so that you can use it correctly, then don't use it. |
I inspect a lot of Vag-steins (some for work, some recreationally as well) and from talking to the owners this is a common bidet problem. You might be right, but there’s definitely a userfriendliness component as well to some of these devices. I don’t think it’s a problem with most bidets, but some of the cheap plug in ones. I don’t have a ‘jayjay but I can definitely tell you they I’ve had my balls sprayed so I can imagine it going into a ‘jayjay (bringing poop particles, yuck) |

Interesting article about bidets and Americans.
tl;dr - those who bought it love it. Life changing, and I agree. I try to only use the toilet with the bidet. I have two now. DD wanted it for her feminine needs after she started her period. Ours has a feminine wash. https://www.yahoo.com/news/panic-bought-bidets-during-pandemic-142311868.html The article mentions a travel bidet. I didn't know such things exists, so I went onto Amazon, and sure enough, there they are. I'm going to get one. |
| We put them in at home and now our kids want them in their first apartments. It's kinda life changing if you still get your period. Sorry for that TMI, but it's so much cleaner. I also love the heated seat. |

We don't have a full bidet, but (as appears do many on this thread) have the bidet seat. I love it. We have the Toto C5 washlet, which was the Wirecutter pick. I like that the remote can be mounted on the wall; as some of the other models have bidet controls toward the back of the seat or along the side, which is not very easy to access while seated.
It does change the height and angle of the toilet seat; but we love it so much we put it in our girls' bathroom when it was renovated. No need for a separate water line, but the outlet by the toilet is great and easy to do when renovating. |
| We have the Toto Washlet as well and can never go back to anything else. |

Yes. We have cushy bidets at home. 100 year old house so no heated seats for me.
Also get the travel bidet. You can use it at home too and control the spray on your but. I would have loved one growing up with my period. My mom is 85 and lives her. It helps as she ages- psa most old people can’t wipe properly |
