unintentional weight loss (and this has NEVER happened to me)

I had the same thing happen-- appetite loss and weight loss. My doctor was actually pretty unconcerned, which surprised me. I had a blood workup, a colonscopy and a visit with a GI doc. Diagnosed with IBS.

This happened to me. Turned out to be cancer. Definitely get it checked out.

This happened to me and it got my doctor’s attention fast. They will not think you are a hypochondriac, I promise.

It turned out to be an odd medication reaction, but I am grateful to have been thoroughly checked.

My MIL had this happen and they checked her for all cancers. No cancer. Don't worry, but I'm glad you are getting checked out OP. Glad your recent bloodwork was ok, though. Have you had a mammo recently?

This happened to me with a kidney stone.

When this happened to me—dropped from size 10 to 8 to 6 to 4 with no effort—it took a while to figure out. Ended up bein an atypical presentation of Crohns. I was not absorbing any nutrients and was pretty badly malnourished.

Op here, I’m so sorry to hear that and hope you are doing ok.

Thank you for sharing that as well because it got me to actually schedule my mammogram and call my pcp. I’ve been so incredibly stressed this year with move to new state plus new job plus kids adjusting and one of them needing intense mental health therapy plus having to renovate/fix $ stuff in our overpriced house plus becoming the sole caregiver for my elderly mother with early stage dementia and intense health anxiety that I have completely neglected my own health. I haven’t been to the dentist in a year, mammogram in 2 plus years, etc.

I lose weight when I'm under stress. It's totally involuntary. Sounds like you have a lot going on OP. Maybe start with an endocrinologist and PCP--but also consider your mental health. Fwiw, i know weight loss is a cancer symptom--but I do think you'd have other symptoms too.

This thread has me fully freaked out.

Op here, thanks for sharing. could you elaborate? I had a terrible bout of what presented as ulcerative colitis years ago but seemed to settle after a few years (started with shellfish poisoning) and I tapered off steroids. although I’ve had digestive issues since and have regular colonoscopies I haven’t had it again…But now I have low levels of certain nutrients (zinc ferritin alk phis) which is correlated with poor nutrition or poor gut absorption. Unfortunately my new a GI is dismissive mansplaining jerk and it’s my pcp who flagged these. How was your crohns confirmed? Did you find yourself getting full faster or was it moving through you faster?

I'm glad you are going to the doctor OP, but this is likely your reason right here, especially since you have noticed yourself eating less. When COVID hit, I was so stressed I lost my appetite and dropped 10 pounds. I didn't worry (about thwe weightl loss) because I knew I wasn't eating the same. I gained it back once I chilled.

I once lost 35 pounds due to a period of intense stress. I was panicked and then quickly realized I was eating way less, and I think all the anxiety revved my metabolism. I got put on Zoloft and gained all of it (plus more...) back during the pandemic. I did go to my PCP for bloodwork/pelvic/uterine U/S and an endocrinologist for a thyroid workup -- and turned up nothing. Sure enough, when life calmed down, I began eating and gaining more.

What kind of cancer caused weight loss with no other symptoms?
