MVCS Principal

Frankly, in this environment ALL the principals deserve an award.

Claremont's principal is leaving. Isn't MVCS Immersion too? Or am I confused (I am from Arlington so not sure)

What subtext? It’s straightforward. She’s leaving to start a new chapter. End of story.

Here's the ACPS apologists/PTAC-er/Alexandria establishment coming in to try to control what people are thinking and saying.

It's not the end of the story. It's strange and people get to talk about that if they want to.

Yes. She is leaving. A huge loss.

I loved her- where is she going?

I am of mixed opinions about her. I think she cares deeply for the students, but anytime we had issues with staff, she always tried to avoid talking to us. Fortunately the staff there is pretty darn good, and we had issues with only one or two of them (and one left). I believe she buys into the whole equity thing just like Hutchings.

She had a very difficult school, with high FARMS and ELL and many facility challenges, but her “success” may be overblown in my opinion. Many students are still underperforming.

Remember she worked under Balas, so I won’t be surprised if she pops up in APS.

I will say that under her leadership at MVCS they did not have the staff turnover and vacancies many other schools struggled with. It will be interesting to see who they get to replace her. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jen Hamilton return, and I don’t think that would be a terrible choice.

This is every principal in today's schools. They need a layer of deniability in case of any controversy. I don't know the principal being discussed here but I'm familiar with public school admin and principals work hard to keep their hands clean, for better or for worse.

Some. Not all. Our east end principal is like a robot. She does whatever central office tells her to and ONLY that.

Nowhere. Just taking some time to enjoy and appreciate life.

I think the staff resignations at the leadership level are reflective of the new superintendent and her choices that impact teachers and staff. I went to the school board meeting the last day of school. It was packed with teachers and parents. It was the most public comments I have ever seen. The board went into a closed session. Many of the board members were not physically present and joined by Zoom.

PP here. I think the school board forgets that the superintendent works for them. She is clearly making HR decisions that negatively impact quality teaching and building principal leadership. I am disgusted that board members are accusing teachers and parents of a misinformation campaign.

I've seen Ashley Simpson Baird accusing parents and teachers of misinformation. What other board members have done the same?

Baird's core base of support is private school parents. She campaigned on transparency and communication and then scrubbed her campaign website as soon as she got elected and started carrying water for her good friend Hutchings (she liked to call him Greg) and ACPS. It didn't take her long to throw ACPS parents under the bus.

Who wouldn't want to do this? What a vague response. Is she independently wealthy so she can just not work?

There seems to be a lot of people at ACPS & the School Board who clearly don't need to worry about income.
