People said that about every immigrant group once upon a time in the US esp. Irish & Italians.

Dumb comment. Irish and Italians still had religion, culture, and ideas of laws and customs still rooted in western ideology. Europe is opening the flood gates to religions and customs completely at odds with their way of life. Millions being brought in who don’t think women should even be allowed to drive or get education, who think religion should be injected into govt and rule of law, men who won’t even swim in the same pools as women, etc etc. immigration in Europe is vastly different than the immigrants coming from the south of the border in the US or those that migrated to America in the 1800s and early 1900s. Completely different cultures clashing in Europe.

We elected Donald Trump and had an insurrection. Not sure we can credibly judge others for far-right extremism.

Come on now, the cultural distance between Irish, English, Germans and Italians is minor. All of these countries have cultural and political traditions rooted in classical Europe.

The USA is a country of immigrants. Europe is not comparable.

Europe has a long history of population migration and cultural mixing. Some instances worked out relatively alright... many did not... just like the rest of the world.

The US is not a country of immigrants. Historically the vast majority of Americans were born Americans. We are approaching the peak levels of foreign born in the late 19th century, about 15%.

They’re very popular in East Germany, which is still struggling with poor education and high unemployment even so long after reunification.

CDU/CDU appears to be losing some ground to AfD. They could shift right a bit and consolidate AdF and FDP support.

Fdp is what most dcum posters would vote for in Germany but they have absolutely cratered

DCUM skews to the left, FDP would have few supporters. FDP is more akin to libertarians than Democrats.

Fdp is the small l liberal party similar to libdem in the uk - which maps closest to what dcum posters feel

Dcum posters are corporate Dems

Most dems on DCUM think Germany's social welfare system is ideal and wouldn't be down for FDP's corporatist outlook.

In any case, the real shocker is that SDP is in the dumps now and polling below AfD. I texted an SDP voting relative and she blamed East Germans and said that politics sucks and that AfD is offering deceptively seductive alternatives.

The CDU/CDU should never have embraced such a wide ranging immigration policy. They brought in so many people during the Syria conflict that it sent people into panic-- they were housing the immigrants in schools with no plans to move them out in time for the start of the school year. Although they figured things our and daily life continued, it's hard to take a fairly ethnocentric, nationalistic culture such as Germany (they are way, way more ethnocentric and nationalistic than the US could ever be because we've always been a nation of many ethnicities) and have a huge, sudden influx of immigrants.

Germany has a lack of ideas, a lack of vision, and a lack of solutions. It took them forever to figure out where to stand on Ukraine when it should have been obvious. And now, If Russia implodes, then Ukrainians exiles go home. But so too does Russia imploding end their support of criminal regimes like Assad's. And when that happens, you send the Syrans back home to rebuild.

It's a bit different in Germany. Germans are heavily encouraged to have immigrants live with them in their households. The government will pay for you to house Ukrainians but even so, they exist together in a way that doesn't happen here in the US. When they took a bunch of Syrian and Afghan migrants, they plopped them by handfuls into little German villages, etc. The idea was full integration. It hasn't really "taken." I have a weird penchant for talking to new immigrants in Germany about their experiences and every one of them has mentioned that Germany is difficult to assimilate into and that they want to go home. Even Germans that work in the social system to help immigrants express disdain for their cultures-- Americans have a lot to work on, but we generally believe that cultures should be respected. That isn't a super European viewpoint.

Hardly surprising that they don't fit into a culture based on pork products, beer, and nakedness.

When you read that the pilgrims fled religious persecution when they came to America, that is the opposite of cultural homogeneity.

Afd just won their first district election in Germany

It’s really hard to do because you need a run off and historically other German parties hang up to block afd — didn’t happen this time

Germans are NOT happy with the current state of affairs

Huge shift towards AfD.

Germans hate the current coalition government and what they feel is anglo-american bullying of Germany.

AfD seeks to:

1. End sanctions with Russia and restart normalized trade

2. End current immigration levels to Germany

3. Stop the green economy

4. Critical of nato

5. Supports continued normal trade with China

Anyone stupid enough to want to end NATO and cozy up to Russia clearly hasn't been following the news.

This is a silly comment. The tradition around immigration in the US is entirely different than in Germany.
